James Wan is back with another daunting horror ensemble set to send shivers down our spines: Teacup, scheduled to air on Peacock. Wan is renowned for concocting several horror anthologies that continue to induce nightmares. Some of his projects include The Conjuring, The Nun, Saw, Insidious, M3gan, and others.

Teacup is his newest creation and is adapted from Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger, which is nominated for the prestigious Bram Stoker Award. Like Wan, McCammon is known to pen shuddering novellas that are on par with the stories the horror director produces.

Fans of Wan have long awaited the release of Teacup, especially since it was announced in 2022. Details about the cast, plot, and more were strictly kept under wraps until production and filming were completed earlier this year. However, the wait is finally over — here’s everything to know about Wan’s newest creation!

When will James Wan's Teacup release?

James Wan’s Teacup will debut on October 10, 2024, with the first two episodes released then, and the remainder to air weekly, two each week until the end of Halloween — October 31, 2024. The show was announced at this year's San Diego Comic-Con among other ongoing projects Wan is working on.

The series will be available to binge on Peacock in the USA. Information concerning OTTs for other countries is yet to be announced. The NBC streaming platform can be accessed by USA users via flexible subscription plans.

The OTT offers two primary plans: Premium and Premium Plus, costing $7.99 and $13.99 per month. Users can also access an annual plan for $79.99 (exclusive of tax).

What is the plot for James Wan's Teacup?

James Wan’s Teacup is an amalgam of horror and sci-fi and will adopt the primary ethos of the book, per Rotten Tomatoes. The horror series will reportedly feature a creature of sorts—mythical, alien, or paranormal, remains undisclosed.

However, the teaser (which remains unreleased online due to extreme gore) from Comic-Con suggests there’s a creature or alien involved in Teacup as the antagonist. The plot revolves around a family from suburban Georgia engaged in a fight for their lives as they uncover a twisted and malicious threat out to get them.

Speaking to The Verge about Teacup, the showrunner Ian McCulloch provided a brief description of what fans and viewers could expect from the upcoming series compared to the book. McCulloch said:

“The series is now very much its own thing: a puzzle-box mystery, an edge-of-your-seat thriller, a can’t-but-must-look horror story, a family drama, a science fiction epic.”

McCulloch’s remarks cement claims of it being fueled by jump scares, eerie music, nightmarish stories, and more of Wan’s classic signatures in any horror franchise.
