St. Denis Medical Season 2 is set a few months after the end of Season 1. At the beginning of the new season, we see Alex coming back from her trip to Hawaii which means she did finally take a break from work. She then intended to hold onto her relaxed mindset at the hospital, but ends up dealing with a tough moment with Ron.
Serena discovered that Matt asked to be reassigned just so he wouldn’t have to be around her, and when confronted, he explained that the distance was necessary and helped him move past his feelings.
A lot has happened since then, and In the latest episode, A Strong Cup of Coffee, we saw how Alex's mentor Pam visiting wasn't really the best thing for the hospital as Alex had thought it would be. Serena also might deal with her feelings for Matt, and their relationship might develop in the next episode.
