Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is soon to hit the screen on Disney+. One of the much-celebrated additions to Season 1 of the Disney+ title was Jon Bernthal's return as Frank Castle. Netflix’s The Punisher already established him in the titular role.
However, today’s confirmation may land some fans in shock. Jon Bernthal will not return for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. The show’s executive producer Sana Amanat confirmed this news in her interview with Empire Magazine. She stated clearly that Frank Castle would not return in the upcoming installment.
In Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again, we saw Bernthal's character become part of the deeper, core conflict. He fought Fisk’s oppressive Anti-Vigilante Taskforce and launched Matt Murdock’s arc toward open confrontation. His escape ultimately hinted at his potential, larger role in the coming seasons.
However, a Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 without Bernthal is now confirmed.

To The Punisher's loyal fans, another revelation by Amanat may bring some joy. She shared that Bernthal will headline The Punisher Special Presentation, a one-off TV movie set for release in 2026.
It will be the third addition to Marvel Studios’ Special Presentations, Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. These specials don't require full-season commitments and have a longer runtime.
We will see Jason R. Moore play Curtis Hoyle. Reinaldo Marcus Green, known for King Richard, will take up the director's chair. Even though this detail is not confirmed, previous set photos suggest that comic book crime boss Ma Gnucci may also feature.
Marvel has kept plot details tight, but Amanat’s comments imply that the story may pick up after Frank escapes from Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again. The timeline and other details cannot be speculated at the moment, but the show may open up into new vistas.
This casting news also shifts expectations. In Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again, Frank Castle occupied a highly charged and valuable role when Matt was gathering allies. The city was also responding to this growing dynamic, heading toward open war.
