Pluribus Episode 3 recap
Here are some of the major events in Pluribus Episode 3, "Grenade":
- Flashback in Norway
The episode opens on a blue neon-lit surface revealed to be that of ice. It soon becomes clear that this scene is taking place long before humanity's current predicament. Helen and Carol are in an ice hotel in Norway, which the latter does not like, but later warms up to it as Helen is blown away by the northern lights visible outside the window. This beautiful memory comes back later in the episode.
- Manousos
We hear Carlos Manuel Vesga's Manousos for the first time after being mentioned by name last week. Carol tries to reach him after he, like her, is also avoiding the hive mind. But the two have a rather contentious conversation. Considering we see him in the trailer, we can expect to see more of him in the upcoming weeks.
- Redistribution has begun
The virus has successfully taken over the world except for a few people by the second episode of Pluribus. Now, this episode has confirmed that the hive people have begun the process of redistributing resources. In the second act of the episode, Carol visits the supermarket and finds it empty. She calls Zosia and asks why the supermarket is empty.
Zosia tells her that they are redistributing resources; however, she has the market restocked for Carol. This happens in the last act of the episode as Carol sees electricity being shut down for residences, except for essential services like hospitals. A frustrated Carol asks Zosia to send her a hand grenade.
- Zosia and Carol have a conversation
Zosia visits Carol's place after their conversation and brings a grenade as she had asked over the phone. After a drink, Carol and Zosia have a conversation that might end up being the heart of this episode. Carol's idea of free will is giving people the choice to choose between right and wrong and trusting them to do nothing destructive.
The hive mind also has a similar definition of free will, but there's one major difference between the hive and the human definition of free will. Despite all the access to destructive weapons, the hive is not interested in wishing harm upon Earth. Zosia brings up Helen's memory in the ice hotel, earning Carol's ire. She pulls the grenade's pin, believing that it was fake.
However, the grenade turns out to be a live one, and Zosia throws out the grenade, resulting in an explosion. Zosia saves Carol's life and almost dies in the process, but the latter takes the former to a hospital, where her condition is stabilized. Carol has a conversation with a DHL man, who now works in the hospital, where Carol learns that the hive mind will take her words unironically.
She uses examples like tanks, atomic bombs, and even nukes, and the man answers positively. Thus, in addition to regulating her emotions, Carol learns to use her words carefully in this Pluribus episode.
The third episode of this post-apocalyptic Sci-fi Apple TV Vince Gilligan show is available on the OTT platform.
