Here are the characters that will play a major role in all seasons of Percy Jackson and the Olympians if they follow the books closely:

  • Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell)

Walker Scobell was confirmed as the titular character in April 2022, before filming began in June that year. Like his book counterpart, the show's version of Percy has struggles with learning disabilities and ADHD in school before learning of his demigod status. In Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, he will meet his cyclops half-brother, Tyson

  • Tyson (Daniel Diemer)

Like his book counterpart, Tyson will join Percy and Annabeth in the second book, The Sea of Monsters. Actor Daniel Diemer was announced as a part of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con. A cyclops, Tyson, everyone in Camp Half-Blood is initially suspicious of him because of his species. Tyson's naivety is one of his defining features.

Two words describe Tyson succinctly: "Gentle Giant". Walker Scobell had teased that Percy would be the same presence in Tyson's life as Sally Jackson was in the former's life:

"I think definitely. I think from the very beginning, basically the first scene, you see Sally treating Tyson the same way that you kind see her treating Percy in the first season. When we get to Camp Half-Blood, things are weird because I have to be [Tyson's] mom, I guess, or his big brother to take care of him. I'm his guardian, and so I have to take care of him, and so I have to get that through my head. I treat him a little differently at the start."
  • Annabeth Chase (Leah Sava Jeffries)

The demigod daughter of Athena and a mortal man, Annabeth, like Percy, is a half-blood. She is interested in architecture, and throughout the first book, she is interested in visiting monuments dedicated to her mother. She is the strategic thinker of the group.

  • Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri)

Grover is a Satyr who is Percy's protector. A softie, there's more to him, as seen in the fifth episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1, in the scene where he interacts with Ares, the God of War. We already know that he will not share scenes with Percy, Tyson, and Annabeth, as he is a captive of the cyclops Polyphemus.

  • Luke Castellan (Charlie Bushnell)

Luke shares an important connection with Thalia, Annabeth, Grover, and Percy. Annabeth had joined Grover, Luke, and Thali when the former was young and on the run. After realizing that Annabeth is also a demigod, Thalia, Luke, and Grover take her to Camp Half-Blood at a great cost: Thalia's life. This happened long before Percy set foot in the camp for the first time.

Luke's father, Hermes, gave him a quest to retrieve the golden apple from Hesperides's Garden. Luke was initially honored by it, even if it was initially completed by Hercules. Luke failed to get the apple, and even worse, he was injured by the dragon, Ladon. This even ended up being a catalyst, as his injury made Luke believe that Olympus did not care about the demigods in Camp Half-Blood.

Sometime after his injury, Luke started having dreams in which Kronos, the central antagonist of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books.

  • Zeus

The Greek God is more of an antagonistic force in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books and show, but certainly not the villain. In the first book and season of the show, he believes that Percy stole his lightning bolt on his father Poseidon's behalf. But as the last chapter revealed, Luke was the thief who got away.

Lance Riddick played Zeus in the season 1 finale, but the actor sadly passed away, resulting in Courtney B. Vance taking over the fan-favorite actor. Author Rick Riordan expressed hope that the recasting felt organic in the Entertainment Weekly interview:

"We're not going to spend a lot of time, and I hope that there won't be any need for us to, without giving away too much about how that happens, I think it feels pretty seamless. And there's not going to be a lot of head-scratching about how that's done."
  • Kronos

The central antagonist of the entire franchise, Kronos is Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades' father. Imprisoned in Tartarus by his own son. He has corrupted Luke for a scheme that would see him return to his corporeal form.

Apart from the ones mentioned above, here are some of the other major Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast members:

  1. Dior Goodjohn: Ares's demigod daughter, Clarisse La Rue
  2. Adam Copeland/Edge: Ares, the God of War
  3. Glynn Turman: Camp Half-Blood activities director, Chiron/Mr. Brunner
  4. Jason Mantzoukas: Camp Half-Blood director, Dionysus/Mr. D
