Jed escaped when Mary attacked him with the family orb and made his way to Evelyn’s home with murderous intentions. Previously in Palm Royale Season 2 Episode 9, Mary tried to knock Jed out when he attempted to compel her to add him to her will. The dramatic fight between Mary and Jed was not shown on the screen, but it became obvious that Mary thought she killed him by hitting him on the head with the family heirloom orb.

But Jed turned out to be stronger than anticipated. Jed got the chance to get out of Mary’s mansion when Mitzi called to check on him, and Mary picked up the phone instead. Jed even got the opportunity to escape through the underground tunnel system that connects the Palm Beach estates. With a gun in hand and in a state of desperation, he turned his sights on his new target in Palm Royale Season 2 Episode 9: Evelyn.

Jed broke into Evelyn’s bedroom and started strangling her in her bed. The assault was abrupt and violent, and Evelyn was unprepared. In the meantime, Mary was searching for Jed in the underground bunkers beneath the mansions, with her own revolver. She heard the struggle that was going on overhead and seemed to be heading towards the trapdoor, which would bring her into the same room where the violent conflict was going on.

Just as Jed was about to deliver his lethal attack on Evelyn, a shot was fired. Jed fell over Evelyn with an open wound on his back. In Palm Royale Season 2 Episode 9, the camera shifted across the room to show that it was not Mary who was holding the smoking gun, but Maxine herself, terrified at her own actions.

There were several reasons why Maxine decided to shoot Jed that had been accumulating over Palm Royale Season 2. At the moment, she was saving Evelyn’s life, even though she had been lying and plotting against her countless times. This heroism addresses the character growth of Maxine and her struggling interpersonal relationship with the Palm Beach women.

In addition to the immediate life-saving element, Maxine had just been informed by Mitzi that Jed was the same person who killed her twin sister, Mirabelle. This revelation changed the shooting into a mere case of self-defense into a more personal case of revenge over the death of her sister. Mirabelle had been shot earlier in the season in what seemed to be an assassination attempt, and the issue of who pulled the trigger had continued to haunt the whole Palm Beach community.

The assassination of Mirabelle was a part of the bigger scheme that Jed had of acquiring the Dellacorte fortune. All this time, Jed played Mary and was pretending to be her “virile bootlegger” when he was really only seeking her inheritance and trust fund. His affair with Mitzi had been the same; he was the father of her unborn baby, and he had been playing around with her all season to advance his financial goals.

Palm Royale Season 2 Episode 9 unveiled that Jed had asked Mitzi to murder Evelyn since she learned about his plans. But Mitzi’s conscience and the increasing attachment between her and Maxine did not allow her to go through with the murder scheme. Rather, she cautioned Maxine about the intentions of Jed, which eventually saw Maxine at the right time and the right place to stop him.

The shooting took place in what seems to be an evident case of self-defense and defense of an individual. Jed had been actively strangling Evelyn when Maxine shot the fatal blow, and had tried to kill Mary earlier in the episode. But Palm Royale Season 2 Episode 9 concluded on this dramatic moment without revealing what happens immediately after that, so the viewers were left wondering how Maxine and Evelyn will approach the situation.

Whether Maxine and Evelyn would notify the authorities of the shooting or seek to conceal the incident is still to be answered. Since Palm Royale has a history of delving into the dark side of high society, and its characters tend to get their reputations preserved by all means, they may attempt to cover up the death of Jed or attempt to come up with a different version of events. The tunnel network that links estates in the city of Palm Beach might also be a good way of disposing of evidence.

How Maxine will feel after the shooting will probably be one of the main concerns of the Season 2 finale. Although her actions are justified, killing a human being is a traumatic experience. Palm Royale Season 2 Episode 9 filmed her horror right after pulling the trigger, indicating that she will have a hard time with the psychological impact of her action, despite saving Evelyn and avenging the murder of her sister.
