On July 3, 2025, the world learned what the Hogwarts Express looks like in the Harry Potter series. The Hogwarts Express is the train on which Hogwarts students travel to the school. This old steam-powered red locomotive appeared in every Potter movie. In both the films and the books, the characters can board the train and travel to Hogwarts by accessing Platform 9¾ at King's Cross railway station.

Now, it looks like the upcoming Wizarding World series is using an entirely new train for all seven seasons of the HBO show. The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre revealed the look of the new Hogwarts Express, which will appear for the first time in the series in the first season of the series, which is adapting the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

The first look at the Hogwarts Express from the HBO Harry Potter series revealed:

The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, through its official Instagram handle, revealed that its steam loco Wightwick Hall will be used as the Hogwarts Express in the upcoming Harry Potter series. After posting the image of the train with a green engine (which will be painted red), the post had a caption that reads:

"EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT! We are extremely proud to share that our beautifully restored steam loco Wightwick Hall will play the role of the iconic locomotive for the Hogwarts Express in the highly anticipated Harry Potter television series! Steam locomotive Wightwick Hall BR (WR) 4-6-0 5MT 6989 was salvaged from Barry Island scrapyard in January 1978 by a group of our volunteers. She then went through a meticulous restoration process, spanning over 40 years. Having once been bound for scrap metal, this stunning loco will now have the privilege of stepping up to play one of the most well-known steam locomotives in the world, and this collaboration will ensure its future for many years to come. We will share more details when we can. #hogwartsexpress #harrypotter #wightwickhall #ragstoriches #locorestoration"

Thus, on the surface level, it looks like the people working on the series have managed to find an equally iconic locomotive to serve as the Hogwarts Express instead of the one used in the eight movies. Plus, with Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling's help, the makers of the series might explore some unexplored aspects of the fan-favorite fictional locomotive.

What do we know about the upcoming HBO series?

We know that the upcoming series is adapting the first book in the series, Philosopher's Stone. The plan, as of now, is to adapt one book per season. Thus, the first season will follow Harry and his friends on their first year at Hogwarts. However, it remains to be seen if we will see Harry use magic in this series, because he didn't do so either in the first movie or book.

"Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry’s eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!"
