Nicole Kidman joins Elle Fanning in a new A24 series, Discretion, based on Chandler Baker's yet unpublished story of the same name. It's the latest TV project in the indie studio's catalog. They have previously worked on the Prime Video series Overcompensating and an upcoming Apple TV+ series, Margo’s Got Money Troubles.

Per Deadline, Discretion will be inspired by details from Baker's personal life, when she worked as a corporate attorney in Dallas, after leaving her job at a D.C. firm. However, the exact plot details are still under wraps.

Besides adapting this short story, Baker will also executive produce this project along with author Susannah Grant (Erin Brokovich). The stars, Kidman and Fanning, will also executive produce, with the former joining with her Blossom Films banner alongside Per Saari, while the latter joins on behalf of Lewellen Pictures, alongside Brittany Kahan Ward and her sister, Dakota.

Discretion will mark Kidman and Fanning's fourth collaboration as actors. They began this journey by starring in the gothic drama, The Beguiled, which also starred Kirsten Dunst. The same year, they also starred in sci-fi comedy, How to Talk to Girls at Parties, and will soon be seen together in David E. Kelly's Apple series, Margo’s Got Money Troubles.

A24 and Chandler Baker: Other projects explored

Apart from Discretion, Chandler Baker has also been working on adaptations of her other books, including her popular 2021 release, The Husbands, with Kirsten Wiig slated to star and produce. Per Deadline, the movie adaptation is currently in development at Amazon, MGM Studios, and Plan B. There are a few more projects on the author's radar.

The publication also reports that Baker is also planning to adapt her 2023 novel, Cutting Teeth, into a television series, besides a potential collaboration with HBO for an adaptation of her 2019 book, Whisper Network. There's a movie adaptation of her short story Oh. What. Fun on its way, where she collaborated with filmmaker Michael Showalter (The Big Sick).

Speaking about A24, the studio is also gearing up for at least a few more projects besides Discretion. The recent reports suggest that they are looking to carry forward the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise by buying its film and TV rights. There's also a collaboration at work with filmmaker Noah Baumbach, as per Deadline, based on Andrew Ridker’s novel Hope.
