The Marlow Murder Club tells the story of three women who are involved in an investigation into a murder mystery that takes place in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. In addition to Samantha Bond, the series stars Jo Martin as Suzie Harris and Cara Horgan as Becks Starling.
Its suspenseful storyline and historical locations keep fans unarguably curious about the filming locations of The Marlow Murder Club. The film was filmed in Marlow, where the creator, Thorogood, resides with his family.
Filming locations of The Marlow Murder Club
As the series is based on a novel, creator Robert Thorogood chose to film at the historical locations mentioned in the book, giving it an authentic touch. He spoke about the filming locations in an interview with RadioTimes, saying:
"All of the locations in The Marlow Murder Club were real in the book, so it's been really weird watching them actually hire the places like All Saints Church, which is described in the book. "We're now filming at All Saints Church and so it's a natural fit, because it is where it was written and that is where we're filming it."
Here are the filming locations of The Marlow Murder Club:
1. Bank of the River Thames
A major part of The Marlow Murder Club is filmed on the scenic River Thames in southern England. This river is a tributary of the River Isis and is a popular location for filming movies and series.
River Thames can be seen at the very beginning of the show’s trailer, and many of the murder investigation scenes were also filmed along its banks.
2. All Saints Church
Another beautiful filming location in the heart of Marlow is the historic All Saints Church. Located along the riverbank with a bridge leading to its doors, this church has stood for nearly two centuries and is one of the most iconic filming locations in the area.
3. Marlow High Street and Marlow Suspension Bridge
Major scenes were filmed on Marlow High Street and the Marlow Suspension Bridge. The bridge, known for its long history, connects the village of Bisham in Berkshire to the town of Marlow.
The bridge spans the River Thames and was designed by renowned English civil engineer William Tierney Clark. It is 12 feet 8 inches high and 235 feet long.
4. Marlow Regatta
Filming for the series also took place at the Marlow Regatta, an international rowing event held annually at Dorney Lake in Buckinghamshire. As one of Britain’s top rowing events, it provided a scenic and lively backdrop for some scenes in The Marlow Murder Club.
Other filming locations
The series also features various houses and streets around Marlow, adding a historic feel to the show. The leading actress, Samantha Bond, shared her thoughts on the locations in an interview with RadioTimes.com, saying:
"It's adorable, it's absolutely one of the most beautiful towns. It's got lovely restaurants, you can go into pubs that were built in the 1500s - I think the oldest one, where I did actually have a glass of wine before I first went in the Thames, that is from 1471 or something.
"So its history really is immense, which also makes me think, which hadn't occurred to me before, that actually it’s the place where Judith would be very happy. Because it's old, it's historical, and of course we've had this amazing weather, so it's looked beautiful," she added.
