FUBAR season 2 is arriving with exciting additions, and one of the most buzzed-about is none other than The Matrix icon Carrie-Anne Moss. She joins the cast as Greta Nelson, a former East German spy with a mysterious and emotional past tied to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character, Luke Brunner. The upcoming season of Netflix’s action-comedy series isn’t just raising the stakes, it’s diving deeper into complex relationships and the ghosts of old missions.

In an interview with Netflix Tudum, Moss shared her excitement about stepping into the world of FUBAR, especially alongside Schwarzenegger.

I talked to Nick, who I’d actually worked with before, and he pitched it to me. I watched the show, and I laughed so hard. And in the way that he described Greta, I just thought it would be really, really fun. And, of course, working with Arnold was just an amazing thought in my mind, like, how amazing would that be?” she said. Moss didn’t hold back when reflecting on her experience, adding, “We just got to have so much fun, I don’t know if I’ve ever had so much fun doing a job.

Past, present, and missions collide

The series originally introduced Luke Brunner as a seasoned CIA operative preparing for retirement, until he discovers that his daughter, Emma (played by Monica Barbaro), has been secretly working for the agency as well. Thrown together on dangerous assignments, father and daughter must also navigate their strained personal relationship. With Greta’s arrival, things are about to get even more complicated. Her past with Luke opens old wounds and new storylines, blending personal drama with high-octane missions.

The chemistry between Moss and Schwarzenegger adds a fresh dynamic to the series. As Greta reenters Luke’s life, the emotional undercurrents of their history promise to add a new depth to the show’s tone, balancing explosive action with moments of real vulnerability.

A cast with style and star power

Alongside Moss and Schwarzenegger, season 2 brings back familiar faces like Fortune Feimster, Milan Carter, Travis Van Winkle, Jay Baruchel, and Fabiana Udenio. Each cast member contributes a unique energy to the ensemble, helping to strike that tricky balance between comedy, action, and heart. Moss, known for her roles in Jessica Jones and The Matrix, brings a cinematic edge to the screen, one that plays perfectly against Schwarzenegger’s iconic presence.

Echoes of true lies and classic spy tropes

FUBAR’s first season drew immediate comparisons to True Lies, the 1994 action-comedy classic also starring Schwarzenegger. With its mix of secret missions, family drama, and dark humor, FUBAR embraces those nostalgic elements while updating them for today’s streaming audience. Greta’s addition to the storyline feels like a nod to the strong, enigmatic women in past spy thrillers, familiar, yet with a modern twist that lets Moss shine.

Reviews, ratings, and audience loyalty

Critics were split on FUBAR’s debut. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 50% rating, with reviews citing predictable jokes and a formulaic plot. But while the critics hesitated, audiences jumped on board. The show quickly became one of Netflix’s most-watched series in its release week, climbing the charts across multiple countries. Viewers praised its lighthearted tone, action set pieces, and the surprisingly tender moments between its characters.

With season 2 set to premiere on June 12, 2025, fans are eager to see how Greta will stir the waters, both in Luke’s past and his present relationship with Emma. Moss brings a magnetic energy to the role, and early interviews suggest that the chemistry with Schwarzenegger is as fun to watch as it was to film. If season 1 introduced us to the chaos of the Brunner family’s double life, season 2 looks ready to turn up the volume, with more heart, more stunts, and even deeper emotional stakes.
