One Tree Hill fans have some exciting news as Netflix is planning to bring back the classic teen drama with a sequel. Original stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton, who played Brooke and Peyton, are on board too. They'll also be taking on executive producer roles this time around.

Fast forward 20 years after the original show wrapped up, and this sequel is about bringing back that emotional aura, close yet convoluted relationships, and the cozy small-town feel that made One Tree Hill so loved from 2003 to 2012.

Plus, Danneel Ackles is on board too. She is not only looking to step back into her role as Rachel Scott but also producing with her husband, Jensen Ackles. The Ackles will be producing it through their Chaos Machine company.

Becky Hartman Edwards, who’s worked on shows like Parenthood and Firefly Lane, is taking the reins for this series. It’s about Brooke and Peyton dealing with raising their teenage kids. The sequel will also follow the emotions these people go through but will be ever-so-slightly different as they are now adults.

Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton are back as Brooke and Peyton, and it’s not just a fun throwback—it’s a huge moment in the show’s history. Both actresses have shared their thoughts on their time in the original series, especially with the reports about the harassment claims against creator Mark Schwahn.

In 2017, some women from the cast, including Bush and Burton, shared their experiences. This, in turn, sparked a heated discussion about workplace harassment in Hollywood. Now, as executive producers, Bush and Burton are steering the ship, they ensure the series focuses on respect and empowerment.

Brooke and Peyton's journey from high school drama to being moms opens up new storylines that both longtime fans and new viewers will love.

Hinting at how much her character brings to the sequel, Bush told E! News:

“I think Brooke Davis running for class president really changed the whole trajectory of her life.”

This follow-up gives us a chance to see how these women, who used to deal with teenage drama, are now tackling the tougher challenges of adult life.

The One Tree Hill sequel will jump two decades from the original. In it, thus, we’ll see Brooke and Peyton facing the challenges of raising their children, who have their own drama. Deadline says the sequel sees the ups and downs these women go through, like love, insecurities, and loss.

It’ll reflect the same struggles they faced as teens, from a grown-up perspective. Most of the original cast hasn't confirmed if they're coming back yet, but reportedly, there have been informal talks with a few of them.

The One Tree Hill sequel is going to be available only on Netflix.
