On August 29, 2024, Alfonso Cuarón's Apple TV+ series Disclaimer premiered at the Venice Film Festival. The first four episodes were screened in the Sala Grande, with names like Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline in the mix. Even though the screening was a three-hour marathon, the audience jumped to their feet for a six-minute and 24-second standing ovation once it was over.

Renée Knight's novel inspired the show. It has been one of the hottest topics this year, especially with Cuarón at the helm. This is his first dive into TV, and it's turning heads with its cast and storyline. It follows Catherine Ravenscroft, played by Blanchett. She is a journalist known for digging up everyone else's secrets, but now she’s caught up in a mystery that could reveal her hidden truths.

The Venice premiere was a celebrity hotspot, with stars like Blanchett, Kline, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Squid Game's Hoyeon strutting on the red carpet in the Italian sun. With Cuarón behind the camera, everyone was buzzing about Disclaimer being one of the festival's must-see events.

Alfonso Cuarón, the man behind hits like Roma and Gravity, is back in the spotlight with his new TV series, Disclaimer. This is his first directing gig since winning an Oscar for Roma, and he's been working on it for a few years now. Instead of another typical show, he’s treating it like a film experience.

As he said at a press conference earlier in the day (August 29, 2024),

“We approached Disclaimer as one giant film, not episodic television, which is how it’s meant to be experienced.”

The crowd in Venice got to be the first to check out this project, which gave them a one-of-a-kind experience that mixed movies and TV.

Blanchett, who played a role in getting Kevin Kline on board, talked about how much she related to her character, Catherine Ravenscroft.

Blanchett said at the same press conference:

“Catherine is a woman who has built her life on revealing truths, yet is confronted with a narrative that could unravel everything she holds dear. It’s a powerful story about the fragility of reputation and the shadows of our past.”

The success of Disclaimer was due to standout performances from Blanchett and Kline. The series also has a supporting cast that includes Sacha Baron Cohen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Hoyeon, who caught the eye of younger festival attendees.

Cuarón teamed up with a top-notch crew behind the scenes, featuring cinematographers Emmanuel Lubezki and Bruno Delbonnel, who have worked with him on other projects.

The chilling score by Finneas O’Connell amps up the intensity of this psychological thriller. Apple Studios, Esperanto Filmoj, and Anonymous Content have produced Disclaimer. Cuarón is also one of the executive producers.

The show is set to drop on Apple TV+ on October 11, 2024. Viewers can watch the first two episodes right away after its release in October, and new episodes will roll out every Friday until November 15, 2024.
