The Disney Plus series Ahsoka took home the Outstanding Fantasy / Sci-fi Costumes award at the 76th Creative Arts Awards Emmys. The series primarily focuses on the Star Wars character Ahsoka, whose story and past are extensively explored. Similarly, the costumes designed catered to a futuristic aesthetic.

Ahsoka received 5 nominations in total. Here’s a complete list of their nominations, including the category they secured a win in:

  1. Outstanding Fantasy / Sci-fi Costumes 2024 (Winner)
  2. Outstanding Period or Fantasy / Sci-fi Hairstyling 2024 (Nomination)
  3. Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup 2024 (Nomination)
  4. Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation 2024 (Nomination)
  5. Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or Movie 2024 (Nomination)

The late costume designer Shawna Trpcic was posthumously presented with the award. However, at her behest, the Costume team, including Alissa Alcala and Devon Patterson, collected the award and dedicated it to her in their acceptance speech. Ahsoka was up against other competitive series, including Loki and Fallout.

Ahsoka’s Journey to 2024 Emmy Win

Trpcic was an exemplary costume designer renowned for her work in the Star Wars franchise. In a presumably final interview with Variety before the Creative Emmys, Trpcic discussed her inspiration behind costumes, which earned her an Emmy nomination for Ahsoka and The Mandalorian.

Speaking to the publication, she claimed all her costumes thus far have been a means to “give back to the fandom.” Furthermore, she revealed the intricate process of creating costumes containing Easter Eggs for Ahsoka and The Mandalorian—her signature.

Commenting about the process of creating these award-winning costumes, she said,

“I imagine myself there, in every single scene, as a character or a warrior, and what I would do in each instance.”

Trpcic created visually stunning ensembles in all 8 episodes of Season 1 of Ahsoka. Whether it was the protagonist's blue-grey bandeau and armory or a Jedi knight’s classic outfit, Trpcic outdid herself in every episode while maintaining the authenticity of each character.

What’s next for Ahsoka from Disney + and its makers?

Apart from earning a win at the 76th Creative Emmys, fans have been anticipating season 2 release sometime next year. Per Forbes, season 2 of Ahsoka will begin filming in the summer of 2025, which means an official release date will take even more time to be announced.

Moreover, the movies The Mandalorian and Gorgu are both scheduled to air first in 2026. So, it might take a while before Ahsoka Season 2 releases.

Season 1 of Ahsoka is streaming on Disney Plus.
