ABC's sitcom Shifting Gears has added a new cast member and a familiar late-night star, Lilly Singh, as a guest character in Season 2. Lilly Singh will play the character of Jen, a fellow mom and Riley’s new friend. The official description for Singh's guest character reads as follows:
"The two [Riley and Jen] click instantly, but their relationship is derailed by unexpected mama drama."
Lilly Singh is the fourth new addition to the Shifting Gears Season 2 cast, including Tim Allen's Home Improvement TV family stars Patricia Richardson, Richard Karn, and Debbe Dunning. They will join Julie Thacker Scully and Mike Scully's comedy series for a sophomore season, along with lead stars Allen (Matt Parker) and Kat Dennings (Riley Parker).
Shifting Gears follows Matt, a gruff widower and owner of an auto restoration shop. Things get complicated in his quiet life after his estranged daughter Riley shows up with his two grandchildren, looking to move into his house. Canadian comedian and host Lilly Singh rose to prominence through the early YouTube culture, where she performed small comedy sketches on her channel, under the pseudonym Superwoman. She shifted gears (pun intended) to late-night television with her 2019 talk show A Little Late with Lilly Singh, which was canceled after two seasons.
In recent years, Singh has appeared in projects like The Muppets Mayhem, The Simpsons, and Dollface. She has also hosted Battle of the Generations and the 95th Academy Awards pre-show, and appeared as a judge on Canada's Got Talent Seasons 2-4.
Lilly Singh will guest star in Shifting Gears Season 2, alongside returning cast members Allen, Dennings, and Seann William Scott as Gabriel, Daryl Chill Mitchell as Stitch, Maxwell Simkins as Carter, , Daryl Chill Mitchell as Stitch, and Barrett Margolis as Georgia.
