New 9-1-1 Season 9 trailer takes the crew to space, details revealed

The newly released trailer for ABC's 9-1-1 Season 9 teases the show's first responders going on a much riskier mission, as they venture into space to fight a bigger challenge.

The procedural drama series, created by Tim Minear, Ryan Murphy, and Brad Falchuk, used to air on Fox before heading to ABC with its seventh season, when it also started being available to stream on Hulu. It starred Angela Bassett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kenneth Choi, Oliver Stark, and Aisha Hinds, among others, in the central roles.

As said before, the latest promo for 9-1-1 season 9 teases its characters, mainly Bassett's Athena Grant, heading into space for an operation that might test their patience even further. This isn't the first time that the show has teased this detail, since an earlier teaser hinted at something similar. Let's see what the new promo reveals about the 9th season.

Angela Bassett features at the front and center of the new 9-1-1 season 9 trailer, as Athena arrives somewhere to deal with an emergency, which may be beyond the scope of everything the crew has witnessed so far.

After showing her reveal that the LAPD is on scene, the 30-second clip shows major crises across the city. A man starts running away with his child as a tide approaches him. An explosion takes place on a ship, while an aircraft starts crashing somewhere else. There's a flood, and there's a lightning strike, enveloping the people from the city.

Howie 'Chimney' Han (Kenneth Choi), Henrietta 'Hen' Wilson (Aisha Hinds), and other first responders look at these scenes. They are not quite sure how to deal with the situation at hand. It seems so difficult to handle on Earth, to the point that people may need to go to space. So, Athena and Hen wear suits to enter space and take over the responsibility to protect the city.

The outlandish plot development in 9-1-1 season 9 was earlier teased in a clip, where the team members were looking at the sky, bracing themselves for what seemed like a meteor shower that they would have to face in the new chapter. It hinted at this doomsday situation, and the latest promo shows Bassett's character heading to space.

The previous season ended on a tragic note with Captain Bobby Nash's sacrifice for the greater good. After him, fans believe Chimney might be the new captain in 9-1-1 season 9. Here's what Aisha Hinds told TV Insider about this topic:

“I think that Hen has tremendous respect for Chimney, and so I think that she would give him the support and the respect that that role requires. I think for Hen in particular, though the chief offered the position to her, she’s always been able to jump in and out of the role knowing that Bobby was coming back to it."

9-1-1 season 9 premieres on October 9 on ABC. It will be available to stream on Hulu the next day.
