Recently, Netflix has been surprising fans with some of the most startling true-crime series like Worst Ex Ever. The first episode titled Dating the Devil revolves around the crimes committed by Benjamin "Ben" Foster, who was accused of two brutal murders and had a history of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriends.
The episode is focused on uncovering his heinous crimes and inhumanity over the years. Foster's ex-girlfriends Amber, Jamiee, and Justine share their stories of being tortured by him while they were dating.
Exploring Benjamin Foster's violent crimes
Netflix's Worst Ex Ever is a true-crime series that explores the criminal past of Benjamin Foster. It exposes the reality behind his seemingly everyman persona and his darkest secret.
As explained by Amber, he pretended to be caring and thoughtful about their relationship. However, with time she discovered that Ben was an abuser, hiding behind a façade of innocence.
Worst Ex Ever extensively details Benjamin Foster's involvement in domestic violence and how he almost killed his victims if they hadn't escaped on time.
According to Amber, the Oregon man turned intensely violent with her after he found that she was helping her ex-boyfriend who was already engaged. After learning the truth, Ben hurt one of Amber's fingers, leaving her with cuts on hand and several bruises. The situation became so terrifying that Amber had to jump from her first-floor balcony and escape from Ben.
Another ex-girlfriend Jaimee, was Ben's captive for several days when he shaved her head, leaving her a tortured bald woman. With each passing day, Ben's domestic violence was getting more intense, and Jamiee was hoping to find an escape.
The woman explained her harrowing experience of abuse in the series and said:
"I could see it in his eyes that he was gonna kill me... I was treated for seven broken ribs, two black eyes, had bruises all over my body, lacerations all over my body..."
Even after getting to the hospital and talking to the police, Jamiee was in a state of total shock. Thankfully, she shared everything with the police and the investigators started digging deeper into Ben's violent past.
The Clark County District Attorney then combined Amber's case from 2017, and Jaimee's case from 2019 after which Benjamin Foster pleaded guilty to domestic violence.
He was sentenced to thirty months in jail but was given credit for 729 days served. Ben came out of prison in 2021, just two years after he assaulted Jamiee.
However, this wasn't the end of Benjamin Foster's terrifying crimes, as he became increasingly sinister and got into a relationship with Justine Siemens.
Worst Ex Ever reveals Benjamin Foster almost killed Justine Siemens
As previously mentioned, Worst Ex Ever deeply explores the brutality of Ben Foster and his crimes that will send shivers through your body. The true-crime series also focused on how Ben could have killed Justine Siemens if she hadn't called her friend on time.
In 2023, Benjamin Foster got into a relationship with Justine Siemens, a 39-year-old who worked at a bar. Their relationship was smooth until Ben revealed his dark personality, leaving Justine in constant pain.
On January 24, 2023, Justine called Angie for help, and after hearing from her mother about Justine not sounding well over a call, Angie informed the police and ran to her friend's house. Upon reaching, Justine didn't answer the door, and Angie heard screams from the back door.
She described the experience as:
"The most god-awful scream you've ever heard in your life."
As depicted in Worst Ex Ever, Angie then saw Ben and asked what was happening. Benjamin Foster told her that Justine was having a heart attack, and he was going to get the car, and vanished.
After getting inside the house, Angie found Justine in the worst possible condition, tied up with a rope without any clothes, and with bruises all over her body. In the aftermath, it was difficult for the doctors to immediately confirm if Justine would survive.
Justine revealed in Worst Ex Ever that the domestic violence caused brain damage, leading her to learn how to walk after enduring unbearable pain.
The police then began a massive search operation against Benjamin Foster as he was constantly changing his physical appearance and switching different places to hide.
Did the police succeed in capturing Benjamin Foster?
Following the crime, the Grants Pass Police Department, with the assistance of the US Marshals, initiated a hunt for Ben. Major news outlets covered that 36-year-old Benjamin Foster had escaped and the police were extensively searching for the criminal.
He changed his appearance often and even used dating apps to find a place to hide. During the manhunt, an elderly woman named Tina Marie Jones was arrested for allowing Foster to stay in her place and hiding the truth from the police.
The police then got a tip suggesting that someone noticed Benjamin Foster taking a cab and heading back to Grants Pass. After reaching the location the police found two dead bodies- 74-year-old Richard Lee Barron Jr. and his caregiver Ronald Griffith, believed to have been killed by Foster.
The police then confirmed it was Foster who was seen by a local man walking with a dog (which belonged to Richard and Griffith). The police then summoned the Jackson Country SWAT team and blocked the entire community to prevent Ben from escaping.
The police made announcements for hours, asking Benjamin Foster to come out of the house and surrender, but they didn't get any response. The Jackson Country SWAT team then entered the house with their drones and K-9 only to find that Ben wasn't inside.
However, the police didn't give up and found out that Benjamin Foster was hiding beneath the house, and didn't come out even after the team sent chemical bombs inside the spot he was hiding.
Ben was holding a gun in his hand and lying down. The police tried to negotiate by making announcements, but Foster gave no response. Then they heard a gunshot and found that he had shot himself. The police took him to the hospital since he was breathing, however, it was too late and Benjamin Foster was declared dead.
