NCIS Season 22 consisted of 20 episodes and the finale premiered on May 5, 2025. Given the long running nature of the show, it is only natural that it keeps many of its storylines unexplored in a particular season, which is then followed through in the next season.

As NCIS Season 22 has come to an end and await the arrival of season 23, there are some burning questions that the fans are seeking answers to. While a number of cliffhanger storylines from the previous seasons were dealt with in season 22, there still remain certain questions that need to be explored.

Let us now explore some of those pressing questions that season 23 of the show will hopefully shed light on.

Unanswered questions from NCIS Season 22

Will Parker find his mother’s burial place?

Throughout most of NCIS Season 22, Parker was engaged in a search for the connection between his mother’s death and Lily. For the same reason, he repeatedly contacted both Dr. Grace Confalone and his father to seek answers. However, since his mother’s body was removed from her original burial place to make a highway by the government, Parker reached out to Palmer for more information.

Initially, his search seemed to bear no results. Eventually, Palmer successfully obtained the death certificate of Parker’s mother and a chance of knowing her present burial ground also rose. However, what made the whole development tense was Palmer’s reaction to the document.

NCIS Season 22, unfortunately, did not show what Palmer found in that document or if he let Parker know of his findings. This is one of those questions that need answering in the following season.

Will Parker spiral into darkness after Roman’s murder?

Another key development that happened in NCIS Season 22 is the murder of Parker’s father, Roman. He is shown to be killed by stabbing and the murderer was wearing lipstick. Following the previous storylines, it can be assumed that the vengeful Carla Marino had murdered him since Parker had a role in her son’s death.

However, the season did not show how Parker responded to this whole tragedy. It essentially offers a lot of space for Parker’s character exploration in the next season as something like this is bound to change someone as a person, more so in Parker’s case because of his own involvement in the situation.

Will Parker find out more about Lily?

One of the major plotlines of NCIS Season 22 dealt with Parker trying to make sense of his hallucinations and find this little girl, whose name he is certain to be Lily. Through constant digging, Parker also discovers that there is some connection between this girl and her mother's death.

However, nothing solid about Lily’s identity is revealed and the theories that she could be Parker’s lost sister or a young Carla Marino have been debunked. Lily’s identity therefore remains one of the most burning questions that the show needs to answer.

What will happen to Gabriel LaRoche?

Gabriel LaRoche, played by Seamus Dever, was introduced in NCIS Season 22 as the main villain. However, by the finale it was revealed that he was actually a hero who was working as a double agent both with the Department of Defense and the Nexus cartel.

By the end of the season, LaRoche seemed to get back on good terms with everyone from the team. However, it was not made clear if he would remain in his position or if viewers will not see LaRoche in the next season. His arc, in terms of the storyline of the show, has been completed and it now remains to be seen if he comes back in some capacity in season 23.

What will happen to Knight And Palmer?

Another key plot point that NCIS needs to address is the Knight and Palmer storyline. In Season 21, Knight had broken up with Palmer but then returned again for a professional relationship. Season 22 has seen many references to their reunion but there has been no definitive moves from either of them.

The next season therefore needs to address where their relationship is going and if they will eventually come together again. While the slow burn nature of their romance is enjoyable, it also gets frustrating after a while, so we know all the NCIS fans are eager to see what happens with them.

NCIS can be streamed on Paramount+.
