The bridge shootout in the Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 finale, titled "Comeuppance," was such a moment, condensing all the chaos and plain immorality running wild through the show. A scene in Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 shows, growing tensions between the Crips and the Russian mob, the two factions meet in the middle of the Sixth Street Bridge, engulfing not just the rival gangs but the Kingstown Police Department's SWAT team in this fight.

This is a violent clash brought on by Milo Sunter's return, who engineers things to get control back over Kingstown, culminating in a really bad firefight. The character developments in the shootout are big, particularly with Mike McLusky, who wrestles with his role as protector amidst violence. In a desperate attempt to prevent Robert from killing an innocent bystander, Kyle McLusky accidentally kills his superior, Robert. This complicates things for his future, raising the stakes personally amidst all the chaos.

The shootout leaves some main characters, such as Iris and Kareem, with casualties that set up unresolved tension and new storylines to branch into a fourth season. This serves to underline the attentiveness of the series toward morality, power, and violence within this fractured community.

Who dies in the Mayor of Kingstown season 3 finale?

The Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 finale offers up a brutal, quite literally chaotic climax to the themes of violence and corruption involving power in a town strictly defined by its prison system. It's an episode punctuated by multiple major character deaths that drive home the grim realities of life in Kingstown.

Of the numerous deaths, though, maybe one that is going to resonate is that of Iris, played by Emma Laird, who, after being manipulated into murdering Konstantin, falls prey to internal battles and overdoses—the worst possible ending for the character arc. As showrunner Hugh Dillon explained to CinemaBlend, Iris' death was meant to be representative of the real-life opioid epidemic that is shredding communities like Kingstown apart. That is what sets the tone that nobody is safe from the town's relentless grip.

Another major loss was that of Captain Kareem, played by Hamish Allan-Headley. Kareem's journey—the man seeking revenge turning into one who embraced the possibility of rehabilitation within the prison system—ended in a heartbeat-shattering climax where he gets brutally murdered by a bunch of inmates. Dillon aptly points out that Kareem's death brutally drives his character full circle to prove a fact: it is impossible to get away from Kingstown's circle of violence.

The finale also includes the deaths of Milo, at the hands of Mike McLusky, and Konstantin, at the hands of Iris. Their reign of terror is brought to an end in these ways. Indeed, though their demises marked the end of their reign of terror, they come at high costs, with the spillover of the power struggle claiming some innocent lives. The stunning twists to the episode, along with the high body count, make for a lasting impression and set up an even darker future for those in Kingstown.

Will there be a Mayor of Kingstown season 4?

To this date, there has been no official announcement made regarding the Mayor of Kingstown Season 4. But considering the strong run the show has had so far and the remaining threads at the end of Season 3, it is almost certain that the show will be renewed for the next season. In an interview dated August 4, 2024, with Variety, showrunner Hugh Dillon said that he was fairly optimistic about the show's future.

He said,

"It's a bit cliché, but from your mouth to God's ears."

He teased further that, after all the dark events in the series, there still might be some hope for Mike to make a compromise by coming to terms with forgiveness for himself.

The Season 3 finale left a lot open—at the very least, from Kyle's arrest to the power vacuum created by the shootout at the bridge. Thus, with these unresolved tensions and new storylines, there would be more stories to be told in Kingstown.

Moreover, viewership-wise, Mayor of Kingstown did quite well; it debuted in the Nielsen Top 10 for Season 3, and through its opening week, it remained part of Paramount+'s Top 10 Series across the United States every single day. Critical reception has also been pretty positive, with Season 3 having a 79% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.

While an official renewal announcement has not been made, it is quite the logical deduction to make that the Mayor of Kingstown will renew for its fourth season, probably in summer 2025, considering the strong viewership, great reception by critics, and unsettled storylines.

Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 is exclusively streaming on Paramount+.
