The legal drama continues in Matlock episode 3, as Madeline "Matty" Matlock (Kathy Bates) finally gets her first major case after joining the renowned New York City law firm. She began with having nightmares about work and now fans can see how well Matty's doing at hiding her true identity and intentions.
Her colleagues seem to have put their trust in Matty, except for Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) and Senior (Beau Bridges) who still have some doubts about the 74-year-old lawyer. Matlock episode 3 titled A Guy Named Greg came out yesterday, October 24, and begins with Matty set to tackle a new challenge after she successfully unlocks Olympia's phone to gather information in the previous episode.
Madeline Matlock's only intention is to expose one of the three partners of Jacobson Moore, who was involved in her daughter's case. However, now that she's a lawyer in the firm, Matty must take the lead in solving cases as well.
Matty took over a wrongful termination case involving a young woman after Olympia faced challenges in proving her claims. The case follows their client Alex Ramos who accused her boss of se*ually assaulting and firing her from the job. Read more to know how the case went.
Matty got her first major case in Matlock 2024 episode 3
As mentioned above, episode 3 extensively focuses on Matty's first case of the firm's client Alex Ramos, played by Danielle Larracuente. Ramos accused her boss Jeremy Stone (Chad Coe) of se*ually assaulting her at a holiday party, followed by a wrongful termination.
At first, Matty didn't feel confident about the case due to her past experiences she didn't want to recall. Additionally, Alex has a complex history at work and was also involved in a s*x tape which might hurt her credibility in the courtroom.
As the legal battle between Alex and Jeremy begins, Jane the Virgin alum Yael Grobglas is introduced as a jury expert Shae Banfield. She's known for her lie-detecting skills, and that's the reason why Olympia calls her "The Meerkat" and her presence just heightened Matty's blood pressure.
While Matty was hoping not to steal the spotlight, Banfield suggested Olympia let Matty take over half of the case. This decision wasn't solely based on Olympia's less effective strategy, but the jury's instant connection with Madeline Matlock.
Matty executes a risky strategy in the courtroom in Matlock Episode 3
Following the jury's suggestion, Matty quickly came up with a risky strategy to trick Jeremy Stone into revealing his past conviction for s*xual assault. Now that she has built a rapport with the jury, Matty begins with clever questioning and psychological tactics with Jeremy to highlight the inconsistencies in his stories.
Not only this, but Matty also opened up about having a similar experience to Alex in her past which involved a man named Greg. This added to a strong emotional connection to Alex's claim and helped the jury understand her situation.
After tricking Jeremy into his own words and exposing his scandalous past, Matty gave her a closing argument. She realized that judging Alex in the first place wasn't right as it was Jeremy who didn't control himself at the party. She realized her mistake and asked for justice for Alex. Her strategy worked and Jeremy's lies were clearly understood by the jury.

Following Matty's closing statement, the jury convicted that Alex was assaulted by her boss and deserves justice. As a result, the decision was in Alex Ramos's favor and was awarded $9 million.
Matty's impressive strategy brought a huge payday for the firm. While Matty and Olympia were incredibly happy to win the case, their reactions were muted due to a complex relationship. However, they both have professional respect for each other, and fans will explore it further in the upcoming episodes.
