Marvel Zombies is an upcoming adult-animated miniseries from Marvel Studios Animation, premiering on Disney+ on September 24, 2025. It depicts the zombie apocalypse version of Marvel heroes from comics and the What If…? universe.

Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel is one of the greatest characters, voiced by Iman Vellani. She plays a key role as a survivor in the story, leading other characters in a parallel world flooded by a virus that turns many heroes into zombies.

Regarding Season 2, nothing has been confirmed yet. Currently, Marvel Zombies is planned as a four-part mini-series for Season 1. It features an all-star voice cast, including Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, and others, making it one of Marvel's most anticipated animated projects.

Marvel Zombies occurs in an alternate timeline first shown in What If...? in the episode 'What If... Zombies?!” where a quantum virus spreads, causing many heroes and villains to turn into zombies. Marvel Studios Animation produced the show and co-created it with Zeb Wells and Bryan Andrews.

Regarding Season 2, neither Marvel nor Disney+ has officially announced its greenlight yet. The first season was designed as a self-contained story. However, given the popularity of zombie-themed stories and the vastness of the Marvel universe, a second season could happen. Whether Season 2 happens will depend on how viewers respond to Season 1 and the creative decisions made by Marvel Studios.

Season 1 follows a group of survivors in a dystopian world trying to find a way to end the outbreak. It includes scenes where many iconic Marvel characters become infected, such as zombified Thanos and other well-known heroes. The creators of Marvel Zombies have confirmed that a plan for Season 2 is already in place and ready to move forward, as reported by Comicbook.

Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum mentioned in the interview with Comicbook,

We had a lot of freedom, you know, in development in terms of characters we could use or where we wanted to explore. But there were certain lore considerations,” Winderbaum explained. “What Robert [Kirkman] and Sean [Phillips] did in that original book, it kind of branched off from what Mark Millar was doing. It was just a different time in the comics, a different universe. We were branching off of 616, sorry, of the MCU version of 616. The pieces on the board were in different places for us to start the story. That lore is very rich and expansive, and Brian and I nerd out all the time about other characters and other things that are happening in the universe at the same time, and where we would explore if we were so lucky to make a second season.

The series’ continuation depends on audience engagement and Disney+ subscriptions, signaling Marvel’s openness to expanding the zombie-infested MCU universe if the first season performs well.

The storyline is driven by the events that occur after Hank Pym saves Janet van Dyne; she was bitten in the Quantum Realm, and the incident triggers a chain reaction that causes the chaos.
