Michael Landon Jr. and Brian Bird devised the Western drama series When Calls the Heart, which is based on Janette Oke's book. It follows Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young, well-off teacher who relocates to the little mining town of Mining Valley, Canada, to teach.

The bulk of the locals are captivated by Elizabeth, but her aristocratic upbringing concerns Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). The Hallmark Channel has been airing the series since 2014, and it combines romance, drama, and the trials of early twentieth-century Canadian frontier life.

Variety confirms that after almost 10 years of absence in the frontier town of Hope Valley, Brooke Shields is back on When Calls the Heart. The actress is best known for having a wide-ranging career, having broken out in The Blue Lagoon, and starring in the CW hit series Legacy, where she has demonstrated the ability to transition between drama, comedy, and emotionally charged family storytelling.

Brooke Shields will be returning as Charlotte Thornton, the strong and intelligent mother of Elizabeth Thatcher Thornton, in the next season of When Calls the Heart. Her previous appearance on the show was almost a decade ago, and her comeback has sparked excitement among viewers, who are eager to see the show shift its focus to the family.

The timing of Shields' re-entry into the show is critical because the town of Hope Valley is facing new challenges and the changing nature of relationships in the wake of the emotional events of past seasons.
