Andor Season 2, now titled Andor: A Star Wars Story with a recent name change, has begun its marketing in full swing, and we can now expect the show sooner rather than later.
Andor is a science fiction series in the Star Wars franchise serving as a prequel to Rogue One. It premiered in September 2022, and the second season is in full swing and expected to be released in April 2025.
The latest issue of the Empire Magazine features Ben Mendelsohn as Director Orson Krennic, confirming that the actor will return in the second season.
Apart from Mendelsohn, the magazine also features Diego Luna's Cassian and Genevieve O'Reilly's Mon Mothma.
This is huge for the upcoming season as Krennic's feature in the magazine confirms his role as a major antagonist in the show.
More about Ben Mendelsohn's return in our story.
What could Ben Mendelsohn's return as Orson Krennic mean for Andor 2?
Since the show is a prequel to Rogue One, set four years before the film, the events will lead directly to the film and tell the story of the beginning of the rebellion.
Krennic's feature in the magazine hints that the actor will not return for just a cameo in the second season and that he will be a major antagonist. His return might also hint that the second season will feature heavily on the Imperial Military Department of Advanced Weapons Research.
In the interview with the magazine, the actor opened up about his character's future in the second season and discussed how he can bump heads with Denis Gough's Dedra Meero.
“If they didn’t see eye to eye, to me, it’s cute,”
He further added,
“Dedra versus Krennic? I think it’s a bit of a mismatch. They’re all underlings to Krennic… They’re all going in one direction. The Empire, if you speak your mind, there are differences of opinion.”
The antagonist's strong portrayal is essential for the show to develop Cassian into the man we see in Rogue One; as Deigo Luna said,
“He’s a man fully committed to the Rebellion...It’s someone who has to ascend. There’s a huge mountain for him to climb in order to [become] the guy we meet in Rogue One.”
What can fans expect from Andor Season 2?
In an exclusive interview with Empire Magazine, showrunner Tony Gilroy discussed the location and possible story of Andor Season 2.
The story will be set in an iconic location from the Star Wars franchise- Yavin IV.
“I mean, we have to end up in Yavin, right? So, we’ll tell the story of Yavin. No one has quite dealt with Yavin the way we will be doing it.”
While Yavin remains one of the iconic and important locations within the Star Wars universe, it is unexplored, and nobody knows how it came to be so important.
Yavin is the Rebel base where the battle of Yavin was fought, which led to the destruction of the Death Star. Since the show focuses on the early years of the rebellion, it makes sense to show Yavin as one of the locations, as it is important for the rebellion.
Season 2 will also answer many questions about the origins of this location, as seen in Rogue One.
Andor 2 releases on April 22, 2025, on Disney+.
