"Imported sounds expensive," reacted Alison.
Ugliest House in America: Retta and Alison purchase various antiques
The second week of the renovation featured Alison working on various parts of the house. For the electrical work, the assigned budget, $150,000, was "shrinking fast." So, she mentioned, they were supposed to be "smart" with the budget.
"Between that and all the electrical work, that $150,000 is shrinking fast. So we need to be smart with out budget. Luckily, antique shopping is where I know how to save a little money, even if Retta kind of hates it," said Alison.
Alison went to Philadelphia, PA, with Retta to purchase some antiques. They met with the antique store owner, Mark. She wanted to buy a mantlel among other things.
She and Ugliest House in America host Retta then went through various items, including lots of stained glass. Retta said they were Alison's "thing." Soon, they came across a chandelier.
Ugliest House in America star Alison then asked Mark about that chandelier.
"Some Murano chandelier imported here," revealed Mark.
Alison reacted that it sounded "expensive." She and Retta laughed about it. When she asked the price, store owner Mark said the price was $2,200.
"Do you want to drop it more?" asked Alison.
Seeing the negotiation unfold, Retta said it was her "favorite" part. She moved to the side and let Alison take the lead for the negotiation. When she asked for the "second drop," Mark lowered the price to $1,600.
However, Alison was still not happy with the price. So, she asked for a "third drop" in the price.
"A third drop? I never do a third drop. $1,200 and that's it," responded Mark.
Alison said the answer was "sold." In their joint confession, Retta seemed excited, while Alison confessed that "three drops" was a lot. They saved $1,000 on the purchase of the chandelier. Retta agreed with her.
The two then went on exploring other items in the antique store. Alison spotted another item, a mantle, and inquired about its price. Mark said it was $2,500.
"Would you do more drops for me?" asked Alison.
Mark responded that there won't be "one, two, and three drops," but only a "final drop." His final price was $1,500. Ugliest House in America star Alison purchased it and confessed that it was her "finest" work.
Soon, Alison showed Mark some pictures of the items that they didn't need. She asked if Mark would be interested. However, he said no.
"This mantle and chandelier are going to look so amazing in this house. And I need Retta's help with one more design element."
During the third week of the renovation on the Ugliest House in America, Alison was having her "wallpaper moment." She admitted her love for choosing wallpapers. Alison asked Retta her opinion about which one she should choose for the pantry.
Soon, they got the delivery of the chandelier that they had purchased earlier. However, soon she faced an issue. The ceiling height was 8.5 feet, and the chandelier was 3.5 feet. Alison shared that the chandelier won't fit properly in the family room.
Alison then found a solution. She mentioned that there was a table room, and they could hang the chandelier there.
"That was almost a $1,200 mistake we definitely could not afford," said Alison.
They then got some good news, which was about the installation of the "very expensive" electrical panels.
