I love how All American Season 7 ended on a cliffhanger and I think it was for the best

CW’s All American Season 7 made a bold move by ending the finale on a cliffhanger with the ball in the air during the decisive moment of the play-off match between South Crenshaw Chargers and Beverly High Eagles. The show is inspired by the life of football player Spencer James and explores the challenges faced by him and those around him.

With new characters and a new generation taking the spotlight in the recent season, All American introduced more drama and also the growing tensions between Cassius, Jeremy, and Jordan Baker, bringing more attention to the complicated relationship between the two families. Furthermore, the finale of All American Season 7 ended with KJ, the Beverly quarterback, throwing a long pass, leaving all of us wondering whether they won or not. This last pass would determine the winner and the one who will move to the state championship.

However, the finale ended with the ball in the air, and we will not find out the result until season 8. But the sports drama is yet to be renewed for the next season, leaving the show with a cliffhanger ending, which I think was the best decision for the show and the characters due to the symbolic ending. Just like the many complicated and unsettled issues, from the Bakers' and Jeremys to Khalil and Amina’s relationship, the ending mirrored the ambiguity of the many struggles the characters were going through.

More on this in our story.

The cliffhanger ending of All American Season 7 gave the show a symbolic ending

All American Season 7 introduced Cassius Jeremy (Osy Ikhile) as the new coach of Beverly High, who has a complicated relationship with Crenshaw coach Jordan Baker (Michael Evans Behling) as they find out they are cousins. The news draws a new wedge between the two as Jordan confronts Cassius about harming his father’s legacy, without giving Cassius a chance to Cassius to tell him the reason behind all this.

The new development made their relationship more complex while Olivia and Layla tried to include Cassius and KJ into the family. With this complexity between them, both the coaches want their teams to reach the state championship as a reward for their hard work but before we could see who wins at the last moments, the finale ends, leaving the game, the relationship, and many other developments in limbo.

While this might be a frustrating ending for many, it still gives the show, if it is renewed for a new season, many plotlines to cover, which will mostly depend on the results of this play-off match and how different characters take the win or the loss. Mainly for Cassius and Jordan, if Beverly wins, Jordan might have to give Cassius a chance to explain why he wanted to destroy Billy’s legacy.

But if the show doesn’t return for season 8, this cliffhanger will be the concluding moments of All American, which still works in favor of the show, as it would leave the end result on the imagination of the viewers.

The ending also reminded me of another famous ambiguous ending of the popular HBO series, The Sopranos, where Tony Soprano keeps looking at the door of the diner, waiting for someone to show up as the show ends. The ending represented the need of Tony Soprano to always look over his shoulder for enemies that could harm him or his family after spending his life around crime.

All American Season 7's cliffhanger also represents the uncertain relationship between the Bakers and Jeremys and the lives of many other characters, such as Amina and Khalil.

All American season 7 is available to stream on the CW official website and if you want to catch up on the previous six seasons, you can stream it on Netflix.
