Robert Herjavec, the Shark Tank investor, is known for his work on the business reality TV series and the cybersecurity space, in which he owns his company. Sharing his journey on social media, Robert discussed how his family had to immigrate to Canada from Yugoslavia.

This was because his father, who worked as a reputed manager there, didn't stop speaking out against communism while the country was under the same rule.

Thus, he was thrown in jail often, but when the threat became serious, they had to pack their bags and leave the country because one more offense would not be good for his father.

They made their way to Toronto, Canada, with just $20 to their name. His father started working two jobs to support the family, while Robert struggled in school.

However, he decided to turn his fate around and claimed that he just didn't want to be poor. He wanted to move up the ladder, and this mindset is what kept him going even when he was struggling as a 13-year-old kid.

Right now, in 2025, Robert Herjavec's net worth is estimated to be $600 million by Celebrity Net Worth.

Shark Tank investor Robert Herjavec shared how he turned his life around

Robert, the Shark Tank investor, had a tough time in school where everyone spoke English except him. He shared about complaining to his mother after school one day, when his father returned from his second shift and heard him talk about it.

He advised him to just work hard towards the best possible outcome with what he is given in this new country. He took this to heart and put in more effort. After graduating from university with a degree in English Literature and Political Science, he wasn't offered very high-paying jobs.

Robert thus worked all sorts of odd jobs to make a living, such as delivering newspapers and working with a production crew. Even though he didn't have any prior experience in computers, he took a sales job with Logiquest and proved his worth in just 6 months by becoming the general manager.

He then created his own cybersecurity company called BRAK System, which he later sold for $30 million. After that, he wasn't working in the same industry again for a while, but soon stepped back in.

This time, he created a bigger, more successful venture for himself called The Herjavec Group. The company was not a huge success in the beginning, but around 2017, it grew in revenue.

The Shark Tank investor often shares about his personal life and emotions on social media, and in one such video, he talked about comparing oneself to others. His fellow Shark Tank investor, Mark Cuban, owns three private jets, and Robert only has one.

So while they were at an event, he realized how he was comparing himself to Mark, who is a billionaire and has bigger, better jets. Robert soon questioned his thinking and checked on his emotions.

Ultimately, he reminded himself that he didn't become so rich and work so hard to buy private jets, but to provide a better living standard for his family. This is a lesson he got from this instance and advised his followers not to compare themselves to others' success because everyone's journey is different.

Shark Tank season 16 episodes release weekly on ABC at 8 PM Eastern Time on Fridays. They are later available to watch on Hulu.
