The Challenge 40 star Josh Martinez lost to Cory Wharton by 4-0 points in the elimination arena of episode 14, known as Coming from Behind. Michele, who won last week's arena challenge, nominated Josh, Bananas, and Cory. The participants headed to the battleground for the daily challenge, where they were tested on their endurance and speed.
The daily challenge was known as Nother Trucker, in which the players had to swing out to the side of a giant truck and hit as many targets as they could when the truck reached 55mph. From the men's team, Derek and Jordan scored the highest and tied, and from the women's side, Rachel won the challenge by hitting 9 targets.

Josh hit the lowest number of targets and was sent to the elimination arena directly. Rachel, who scored the highest on the women's team, had to come up with one name between Cory and Bananas, who would be fighting Josh. Rachel decided to send Cory against Josh as she felt that they were a good fit as a competitor. However, the result swung to one side when Cory beat Josh by 4-0.
The Challenge 40 fans took to X and commented that Josh deserved to go as there is no elimination round where he did well. One fan took to X and wrote:

As episode 14 of The Challenge 40 unfolded, the audience witnessed one more challenger go back to their home. Josh Martinez was nominated by Michele this week for the elimination arena along with Cory and Bananas. He was directly sent to the elimination battle round after losing the daily challenge. He was pitted against Cory Wharton, whom he called "family," as he departed.
However, when the time came to award karma points to other challengers, he chose Bananas, Rachel, and Tori 5 karma points and the other hand gave the rest of them just 1 point, believing that his karma points would impact the coming dynamics between the challengers and their game as well.
The Challenge 40 fans were a little shocked by Josh's move, as after telling Cory that he would always have his back, he gave Cory just one karma point.
The Challenge 40 will air episode 15 on December 4, 2024, on MTV.
