Ever since HBO announced the Harry Potter series, fans have been going crazy over who the casting choices might be.
With neither of the three titular actors, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson coming back as Harry, Ron, and Hermione, the show will feature new faces who will have to fill big shoes.
Another important character whose casting fans have been speculating about is Lord Voldemort. Since Ralph Fiennes won’t be returning to play the villain, it remains to be seen who is cast for this crucial role.
Fans are divided over Voldemort's casting choices
Despite no official confirmation regarding who will be cast as Voldemort in the upcoming Harry Potter series, fans have dedicatedly started to point out whom they would like to see in the role.
A Reddit user named DALTT started a thread on the platform, saying,
“These are the actors that my head constantly goes to for Voldemort. I would say Cillian Murphy and Barnabas Cucumber are my top two, but I think a lot of these options would be great. I think Andy Serkis is a bit more of an outside the box option, but he’s so good with highly physical character acting.”
Another user victoryabonbon said,
“Hiddleston for me. He has a creep inside of him”
SoylentGreen-YumYum continued the conversation, saying,
“Hiddleston was my pick for Snape about 5 years ago.”
Another user, CoreyAdara went a step further and said,
“If it for real ended up being Tom Hiddleston or Cillian Murphy, never mind the set story, I would root for Voldemort all the way😅”
Theaterkid01 mentioned,
“Paul Bettany would be so perfect.”
With fans being this much excited about Voldemort’s casting, it remains to be seen who snatches that crown.
More on the Harry Potter Series
While not much has been revealed about the Harry Potter series, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, of HBO & Max Content as reported by Deadline, mentioned,
“This new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years.”
He also assured the fans saying that the series would be
“a faithful adaptation.”
According to early reports, each season of the show was supposed to be focusing on each book of the series. However, as Bloys mentioned the project would go on for
“10 consecutive years,”
that means the 1 book equals one season theory does not hold. While some speculated that Fantastic Beasts could be used to help with 10 seasons over 10 years, it had been specified by WBD brass that Fantastic Beasts would not be a part of the series.
However, fans need not worry as whatever the case might be, Bloys has promised that as they are starting this new journey, they would
“do so with the full care and craft of this franchise.”
As for the creative team, Mark Mylod and Francesca Gardiner of Succession fame have signed up as the director and writer, respectively. Gardiner will also serve as executive producer and showrunner. Mylod will direct several episodes and will also serve as an executive producer.
With no official update on the release date of the Harry Potter series, fans are eagerly waiting for more details.
