Just after Ellen Pompeo, Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight also confirmed that the s*x scene from season 2 between Pompeo’s Meredith and Knight’s George was humiliating and scary.

During an interview with People, Knight shared how both stars were scared about their characters. He said:

"We were both just really scared for what was going to happen. It's like, what are our characters doing here? What are they doing? You can't help but feel like this is not going to go well. How are [George and Meredith] going to survive this?"

More on this in our story.

Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight recalls the humiliating s*x scene in season 2

In season 2, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) had broken up due to the arrival of Derek’s estranged wife Addison (Kate Walsh) in the season 1 finale.

Later, Meredith has an emotional encounter with her father, Thatcher (Jeff Perry), who had left her mother and her when she was five. T.R. Knight’s George confessed to Meredith about his feelings for her when she was already feeling dejected and heartbroken. The confession led to the awkward s*x scene, which ended when Meredith began crying.

While talking to People, the Grey's Anatomy star also recalled how both of them had to film the scene twice to get it right. He further said that he and Pompeo were both scared about their characters but commended Shonda Rhimes, creator of Grey's Anatomy, for depicting the kinds of mistakes people make in real life. He said:

"Let's face it, we all make huge mistakes in life,” Knight says. “I think that's the core of it — it's recreating in these characters these terrible mistakes that we make in life, and we have to go on and we have to figure it out. And we are not always at our best, and we're not always at our ideal. And I think that is something that's a real, beautiful skill of Shonda's and the writers, to create that thing where, where even the actors playing it are like, 'No, we can't do this.'"

He continued:

"But they are. They're going to have this terrible, terrible sex that is going to that's going to haunt them for the rest of their — well, George's short life, unfortunately."

Ellen Pompeo recalled crying after the mortifying scene in Grey's Anatomy Season 2

Knight’s comments came after Pompeo, who plays Meredith in Grey's Anatomy, had revealed how mortifying that particular scene was for both the characters.

According to People, Pompeo stated in the Call Her Daddy podcast that she and Knight ended up crying after doing the scene. She said:

"We cried. And the scene was so uncomfortable and awkward, and he didn't wanna do that. I didn't wanna do it."

Both the Grey's Anatomy stars revealed that they had to film the scene two times. In the podcast, Pompeo stated:

"The network said there was too much thrusting. In your worst nightmare to have to do it one time, we had to re-shoot that s---. We had to re-shoot it and do it twice."

However, Knight did not recall crying after the scene but trusted Pompeo’s memory regarding it. He said:

"[Ellen’s] memory is, I’m sure, better than mine."

Grey’s Anatomy has been recently renewed for a season 22, making fans of the show delighted by the news.
