Inspired by the original 1986 Matlock, the show delves into the life of a retired attorney, Madeline Kingston, who is determined to find the truth behind her daughter's death. Madeline hence joins a top law firm under the fake identity of Matty Matlock to solve the mystery behind her daughter's death. Amidst the courtroom drama and complex investigations, Matty develops a bond with her boss, Olivia Lawrence (Skye P. Marshal)

Matlock Season 1 came to an end on April 17, 2025. Even though it wrapped up some major plotlines, the viewers were left with some unanswered questions. CBS has officially renewed Matlock for Season 2, which is all set to unravel the major cliffhangers and the unanswered questions of the debut season. In a recent interview with TV Insider, Skye P. Marshall opened up some upcoming plotlines of Matlock Season 2. Skye P. Marchal, who plays Olympis Lawrence in Matlock, revealed,

"We get to explore so many criminal law procedures. I've learnt a lot about class action suits and corporate law from this show."

Marshall explained how Matlock Season 2 will include the case-of-the-week format like several crime dramas. Additionally, there will also be some surprising guest stars who will play the clients of the law firm.

Skye P. Marshall on Matlock Season 2 storyline: Cases-of-the-week format and more

In the TV Insider interview, Skye P. Marshal and Jason Ritter opened up about what's next for their characters, Olympia and her former husband Julian, in Matlock Season 2. In the Season 1 finale, Olympia discovered Julian's association with the Wellbrexa case. Even though Julian confessed to it, Olympia was sure about the involvement of some bigger names. In the upcoming season, Olympia might investigate and dig deeper into the case. Skye P. Marshal told TV Insider,

"I think we'll continue to do more cases of the week like the one we did about mold."

The case of the week format isn't an alien concept in television. Several popular crime drama shows, including Matlock, Boston Legal, Law & Order, and Suits, have adapted this format. Each episode offers new cases, making the legal show both interesting and easy to follow.

Marshall said that there will indeed be a balance between the main plot and the case of the week format. She told,

"They mirror each other. I'm so excited to see, based on where the characters are, what kind of cases are going to reflect what we're feeling."

Matlock Season 2 is all set to release in the fall of 2025. New episodes will air every Thursday at 9pm ET similar to season 1.
