The Harry Potter TV series by HBO has been taking the internet by storm, as the fandom is extremely excited to get any possible information about the show. So far, HBO has been doing a commendable job with the casting, with stellar stars like Nick Frost and Janet McTeer having joined the crew, along with several other young actors who will be playing the roles of various other students in the series rendition of the beloved franchise.

However, one of the interesting things that HBO has done in this regard is that the studio has refrained from casting any of the actors from the original Harry Potter movie series.

Now, whether this decision is intentional or purely coincidental is yet to be revealed. However, that does not mean that actors from the movie series have not expressed an interest in the upcoming TV series.

Gary Oldman expressed an interest in playing the role of Dumbledore in the upcoming HBO Harry Potter series

Gary Oldman, who played the role of the beloved Sirius Black in the original Harry Potter movie franchise, was one of the many original cast members who expressed an interest in playing a role in the upcoming TV series adaptation of the popular franchise by J.K. Rowling.

In an interview with Variety, Oldman pointed out his observation that HBO seemed to be steering clear of anyone involved in the original movie series. However, having said that, he also stated that he would have fancied a shot at playing the role of Albus Dumbledore, since the role would have been very age-appropriate for him now:

"My personal feeling is that they're not going to go anywhere near anyone that was connected to the original. I'm actually very intrigued to see it because so much of the books were cut. I would've fancied a go at Dumbledore. Getting up there now, it's the right age for Dumbledore."

Incidentally, Albus Dumbledore was one of the first characters who was cast — the popular Hogwarts principal's role will be played by John Lithgow, who is currently 79 years old.

Apart from Gary Oldman, other veteran actors from the Harry Potter franchise have also expressed an interest in playing a role in the upcoming TV series. While Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, joked that he would sneak into the sets as one of the background extras, Ralph Fiennes, who portrayed the infamous Dark Lord Voldemort, had a word of advice for whoever would be playing his character:

"Make sure you can handle the long, flowing robes, and don't trip over them. Practice your long, flowing robe walk," he told Entertainment Tonight.
