The acclaimed CBS drama Fire Country Season 3 returned this week with Episode 16, bringing back Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox. She's Bode's aunt and his mother Sharon's stepsister.

The two have always tried to live like real siblings, but soon after Mickey's father went behind bars, their childhood bond broke. The latest episode takes a closer look at the Sheriff's personal journey, setting the stage for her to take the spotlight in a brand-new spin-off series set to debut next year.

Max Thieriot, who plays Bode in Fire Country and also serves as the co-creator, recently opened up about Mickey's return in Episode 16 and said:

"This is a really exciting episode. Now we get to really dive deeper into her story. Even though it's a 'Fire Country' episode, there's a lot of new texture to it."

The CBS drama isn't just about the firefighters' mission but also how these heroes balance their personal and professional lives. Since the Season 3 premiere, a lot has unfolded— from Walter’s battle with dementia to Birch’s heartbreaking death and Bode’s ongoing struggles.

These have become the season’s most gripping storylines, and now it's getting even harder for Station 42. They've learned that the company Oxalta is responsible for contaminating the water at The Three Rock, and now it should be held accountable for Birch's demise and for hiding the truth.

Fire Country Season 3 Episode 16 recap: Mickey's father has been released from prison

After years of separation, Sharon and her stepsister, Mickey, try to reconnect. The two had a close bond in childhood, but Mickey's father's imprisonment caused a rift between the families.

Despite that, the stepsisters stayed in touch, but things became awkward over time, especially after Bode landed in jail. Sharon always felt that Mickey judged her parenting, and she wasn't wrong.

However, the roles have reversed. As revealed in Fire Country Season 3 Episode 16, Mickey's daughter is now battling addiction and has returned to read. This has led Mickey to turn to her stepsister for emotional support.

The two women were trying to enjoy some time together when trouble showed up in the form of Mickey’s father, Wes Fox. Turns out, he's out of jail and back to his old criminal ways.

After his release from prison, Wes has turned back to illegal activities and unknowingly pulled Bode into it. The firefighter was just doing some extra work to earn money but was seen with a known criminal, which broke the rule of his parole.

In the previous episode, Officer Carson showed up at Bode's place and warned him about staying away from that person. Meanwhile, Wes offered a huge amount to Sharon to help take care of Walter.

Initially, Sharon seemed tempted but Mickey soon explained that the money comes straight from illegal activities. Being a sheriff, Mickey must arrest Wes, but she's still emotionally attached to her father.

As the Fire Country Season 3 episode progressed, things got intense as Wes got bitten by a rattlesnake. Startingly, it wasn't an accident but an attempt to put an end to Wes's life. The snake's rattle had been removed, which means someone had set it up on purpose to kill him.

While an ordinary individual would have wanted to be rushed to the hospital, Wes requested Bode to drop him off at Staion 42 for antivenom. This indicates that Mickey's dad is hiding from individuals beyond the police, maybe the ones associated with his dark past.

Mickey learned that someone wants her father dead, leading her to initiate an investigation. When asked, Wes suggested that another recently released criminal named Mojave Sutton might have done this.

However, Mojave denies all the claims and even says that Wes has lost his sharpness. Mickey suspected that her father was setting her on a wild goose chase, so she called the hospital to check.

It's revealed that Wes never got admitted to the hospital, and this is when Mickey realizes he has disappeared. The sheriff then asked Bode to help her out in tracking Wes.

As seen in the Fire Country Season 3 episode, Mickey and Bode tracked Wes to a secret weed farm where. He was seen arguing with his right hand, Ozzy, who tried to kill him. The reason? Ozzy learned that Wes planned to leave everything for his struggling granddaughter, Skye.

He felt betrayed and pulled a gun on Wes but accidentally started a fire at the farm. As the flames rose, Mickey and Bode tried to escape along with Wes, realizing just how complicated the family dynamics had become. Especially for Bode, who knows exactly how Skye might be feeling.

As the wildfire got worse, Ozzy ran to find a secret stash of Wes’s money. Since Jake had been feeling left alone at Station 42, Vince sends him to accompany Mickey in catching Ozzy.

The wildfire almost trapped everyone, but planes dropped water just in time and saved them. Later in the Fire Country Season 3 episode, Mckey visited her father at the hospital and asked if they could fix their relationship.

She wants her father to leave his shady world behind and start a new life. However, Wes admitted that he never planned to change, even for his daughter, making Mickey incredibly sad.

Later in the Fire Country Season 3 Episode 16, Sharon manages to get a deal with Oxalta. As revealed in the previous episode, Jake's girlfriend, Violet, dreamed of getting a job in the company and has now finally achieved it.

At first, it was quite shocking to learn that Violet is now a part of criminals like Oxalta, but she proved to be a good person by helping Sharon learn more about the company. Oxalta's unethical activity led Manny to experience trauma, and now he has been released early.

Meanwhile, Bode expresses his disappointment that criminals like Oxalta live freely while people like Wes are demonized. He also didn't like Sharon accepting the deal, seeing it as a betrayal of their values.
