As Stranger Things nears its final season, Finn Wolfhard has revealed a plan that the cast once discussed to mark the end of their journey together. According to Variety, the actors considered getting a group tattoo as a lasting memory of their time on the series. While the idea was never finalized, Wolfhard explained that it symbolized how much the show meant to each cast member.

In the interview, Wolfhard said:

“Honestly, I think moving forward, we might still do it.”

The tattoo ideas reflected different aspects of Stranger Things and its significance to each person. Sadie Sink suggested a flashlight. Some preferred a simple date: “7-15-2016,” to commemorate the series’ release. Wolfhard himself proposed a tiger, a nod to the Hawkins school mascot.

This plan was discussed as the cast approached filming for the finale of Stranger Things, which Wolfhard described as an emotional experience. As the actor steps away from playing Mike Wheeler, he has been reflecting on his time with the series. Both the shared moments and individual memories have shaped nearly a decade of Stranger Things.

Wolfhard explained that the idea of a group tattoo emerged as a way to celebrate the bond formed by the 11 cast members over the years. According to Variety, the designs varied because —

“everyone had different storylines, and the show meant different things to different people.”

He recalled how discussions about the tattoo reflected the diversity of their experiences on set. Sink’s flashlight design referenced moments tied to her storyline, while the date design was meant to be universal. Wolfhard’s tiger idea connected to Hawkins High, grounding the tattoo in the fictional world they shared.

Despite their enthusiasm, they could not reach an agreement. Wolfhard admitted that this disagreement reflected how personal the experience had been for everyone. Still, he suggested that the idea might not be completely off the table.

“Honestly, I think moving forward, we might still do it,” he said.

Filming the Stranger Things finale and saying goodbye

The tattoo discussions happened around the time the cast filmed their final scenes together. Wolfhard described his last day on set as surreal. According to Variety, Wolfhard observed that several cast members who had already finished filming—Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, and Maya Hawke—returned to watch the final moments of production. Their presence added to the significance of the show’s closing scenes.

He said,

“I turned around from the monitors, and it was hundreds of people just hanging out for the first time in the same room after 10 years of working. And they were just watching.”

When the Duffer Brothers called “action” for the last time, Wolfhard found himself part of a key moment with “some” of the original “kids.” He was referring to Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, and Sadie Sink.

“There was a moment where there was true joy from everyone because of a moment that happened,” he explained, stopping short of revealing details.

He added,

“When I walked out from doing the scene, it was just one of the greatest moments in my entire life. I didn’t process at the time because it was just so emotional. There was a lot of Champagne.”

Looking ahead while holding on to Stranger Things

For Wolfhard, the tattoo represents more than just nostalgia. It reflects his effort to balance moving forward with honoring the show that shaped his career. He noted,

“The way for me to sort of advance in my life and my career is not to try to replace the show. It’s to try to really embrace it. Because to fight it would be the wrong thing to do, because then you’re forgetting where everything started.”

Season 5 of Stranger Things will roll out in three parts: Volume 1 (Episodes 1–4) on Nov. 26, Volume 2 (Episodes 5–7) on Christmas, and the finale on New Year’s Eve. Meanwhile, Wolfhard continues to expand his career with music, directing, and new film projects. The tattoo idea, however, remains a potential way to keep the cast’s connection alive beyond the show.
