The Everybody Loves Raymond cast is honoring their late co-star Sawyer Sweeten after coming together for the show's 30-year reunion. Created by Phil Rosenthal, Everybody Loves Raymond featured Ray Romano, Patricia Heaton, and Brad Garrett in the main cast.
Sawyer appeared as Geoffrey Barone in the series, starring in a total of 142 episodes, according to IMDb. The series aired its first episode in 1996 and concluded with the last episode in 2005. The series revolved around Ray Barone, a character played by Ray Romano, a sports writer juggling work, his personal life, and a family living in the same neighborhood.
Geoffrey was the son of Ray and his wife, Debra, played by Patricia Heaton in the show. He also had a twin brother, Michael, and a sister named Ally in the series. Michael's character was brought to life by Sawyer's actual twin brother, Sullivan Sweeten.
Sawyer Sweeten took his own life in 2015 at the age of nineteen. During the 30th anniversary of Everybody Loves Raymond, the series cast, including Ray Romano, remembered the late actor.
Everybody Loves Raymond cast pays tribute to Sawyer Sweeten at the 30th reunion
Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Reunion was streamed on CBS on November 24. During the special episode, Ray Romano, who played the character of Sawyer's father in the series, said:
"Can we mention?"
Madylin, Sawyer's real-life sister, who played the character of Ally Barone in the series, said:
"Sawyer? Yes."
Adding to his statement, Ray said:
"So Sawyer, of course, is no longer with us, and we miss him."
Ray, referring to Madylin and Sullivan, who are real-life siblings of Sawyer and also played the characters of his siblings on the series, further said:
"And he, just like you are, was this bright energy."
Replying to Ray, Sullivan said:
"None of us really expected what happened. But I try to think about the good moments. And oftentimes, that’s here on the set."
Sawyer started working in Everybody Loves Raymond when he was one year and four months old. Along with the famous series, he also appeared on Even Stevens and Frank McKlusky, C.I. Sawyer lost his life a few days before he was about to turn twenty, after he shot himself.
Sawyer Sweeten's sister Madylin talks about suicide prevention in the Everybody Loves Raymond 30th Reunion episode
During the 30th reunion of the series, along with thinking of her brother and the show's cast member, Sawyer Sweeten, Madylin openly talked about suicide prevention through the statement:
"We're very passionate in our family about suicide prevention. It is the second leading cause of death between ages 18 to 25. But 90 percent of people who seek treatment are cured. And so many of the messages we get are people saying, ‘I’m so grateful to have heard about your brother. He saved my life."
When asked if she works with a particular community, she added:
"We work with the national suicide prevention hotline. That's our main place. But people can grab a ‘Sawyer’ t-shirt. We do t-shirts every year, and all of the proceeds go there."
