Euphoria debuted on January 1, 2017, and quickly gained critical acclaim. As such, fans couldn’t be happier about a new update for Euphoria Season 3, especially since the Vice President of Programming for HBO, Francesca Orsi, announced it via Instagram. The series discussed several themes concerning the chaotic lives of teenagers in high school and vital social matters.

Francesca Orsi highlighted her delight in announcing the renewal of the phenomenal efforts of Euphoria’s cast. Speaking at the behest of HBO, Orsi said,

“We couldn’t be more honored to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into season three.”

Despite the update, the series has experienced several unforeseen delays beginning with season 2. Due to COVID-19, the writer's strike, and other reasons, season 2 was dropped nearly four years later, in 2022.

With the writer’s strike and the actor's and actresses' busy schedules, scheduling filming was futile. However, with a new update, here’s everything we know about Euphoria Season 3.

Does Euphoria Season 3 have a release date?

Euphoria Season 3 does not have a release date yet. Speaking to Deadline in 2023 about it, Orsi mentioned that filming for season 3 couldn’t commence at the time due to Sam Levinson's lack of “countless scripts.”

Furthermore, with actors such as Zendaya, Sydney Sweeny, and Jacob Elordi’s filming schedules packed, filming for the new season experienced further delays. However, a recent update from the Chairman and CEO of HBO & Max content offered some comfort to fans pondering over an update.

Speaking to Deadline on September 16, 2024, Casey Bloys touched on the highly anticipated release date. Bloys said,

“I don’t know the exact date, but I will tell you that we’ve been working with Sam Levinson (Euphoria’s creator). Our plan was to shoot starting in mid-January, and that’s still on track.”

This means viewers and fans should expect the series to air sometime in late 2025 or early 2026.

What will Euphoria Season 3 be about?

Euphoria Season 3 will unwrap all the events from Season 2, including the aftermath of Maddy and Cassie’s iconic stage fight, Nate’s bombshell evidence against his father, Rue finally forgiving Jules and the series enigma - Nate’s brother.

While there is an array of theories, the story might not continue with a high school storyline and may advance to a more real-world setting. Speaking to GQ, Sweeney vaguely commented on what fans and viewers should expect from Euphoria Season 3, saying,

“People will be really amazed with what season three becomes. I think that’s good because seasons one and two were so different.”

In another interview with Deadline in 2022, Colman Domingo quoted Levinson’s response about season 3 of the series, hinting at a potential time jump for the characters. Calling the show an organism, Domingo quoted Levinson saying,

“Let’s move forward. I’m going to go deeper with these characters. I’m going to really peel away the layer of them and just get to the human heart. “

From Levinson’s thoughts, the series might get a time jump since years have passed. Moreover, with Levinson’s idea of moving forward, a time jump is highly plausible to consider happening.

What do we know about the cast of Euphoria Season 3?

With season 2 ending on several cliffhangers, the series' regular cast members are sure to return. Here’s a list of the cast members we could expect to appear in Euphoria Season 3:

  1. Zendaya as Rue
  2. Sydney Sweeney as Cassie
  3. Jacob Elordi as Nate
  4. Alexa Demie as Maddy
  5. Hunter Schafer as Jules
  6. Maude Apatow as Lexi
  7. Storm Reid as Gia
  8. Austin Abrams as Ethan
  9. Colman Domingo as Ali
  10. Algee Smith as Chris
  11. Nika King as Leslie

Further details about the potential new cast are yet to be revealed.

Why is Euphoria Season 3 delayed?

Euphoria Season 3 would have aired long ago if it hadn’t been for several unforeseen circumstances that caused a delay. One is the five-month writer’s strike from May to September 2023. Naturally, it took a while for Levinson and the Euphoria team to regroup and discuss a new script.

But, there was yet another major problem: the cast wasn’t available for filming, and almost everyone was occupied with another movie or television series.

Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, and others were unavailable throughout the rest of the year. Two primary reasons caused a massive delay in the show’s renewal status.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Euphoria are available to binge on Hulu and Disney Plus.
