When it was announced that Tracy Ifeachor would be leaving The Pitt after just one season, fans were left surprised and disappointed.

Her character, Dr. Heather Collins, was one of the highlights of the show, and nobody expected her to leave the show so soon.

Reports also suggested that it was a creative decision to let Dr. Collins go, as the second season begins with a time jump. While Tracy Ifeachor will not be seen in The Pitt Season 2, the actress has now talked about whether she would return to the HBO Max series in the future.

In an interview with US Magazine, the actress said that while she loved playing Dr. Collins, she believes in ‘moving forward’, hinting that she might not return to the medical drama after her exit in Season 2.

Tracy Ifeachor teases whether she will return to The Pitt

During the interview, Tracy Ifeachor revealed that now that she is not working on The Pitt, she is involved in several other projects. Though she gave her all to the character of Dr. Heather Collins, she believes in moving forward in life:

“I’ve been so busy working on other projects. I’m actually in a movie with Jake Gyllenhaal, so that’s been exciting, and then I go to my next project. I loved playing Dr. Heather Collins. I put so much into her, and I gave so much of myself to tha,t and I really left it all on the field. I left it all in the bathroom that day. So, I really loved that character and as a person. I just keep walking forward.”

Collins portrays a fourth-year resident in The Pitt Season 1. Since the second season begins with a time jump and takes place during the 4th of July weekend, it makes sense that Collins has moved on to become a full-time doctor after completing her residency.

Ifeachor also talked about her experience of working on the show during the interview. She said she enjoyed playing Collins and has learnt several important lessons from the character, as Collins does not stop working despite facing multiple traumas in her life. She stated:

“It was just such a joy and a pleasure to play Dr. Heather Collins and to know that my character has been so phenomenally well-received. It just blew me away. I don’t know where she will be on the weekend of next season but I know where I’m going to be, which is on my next project, which is just so amazing.

She added:

“But I take the lessons that I’ve learned from playing Dr. Heather Collins — playing this character who goes through such a traumatic event and still shows up every day for other people.”

The Pitt premiered on HBO Max in January 2025 and earned critical acclaim and the audience’s love for its authentic portrayal of the functioning of a hospital. The show was quickly renewed for a second season, which is slated to debut in January 2026. The series recently earned multiple accolades at the Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series.

While Tracy Ifeachor has departed the show, the rest of the main cast members will be returning next season, including Noah Wyle as Dr. Robby, Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon, Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay, Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans, Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa "Mel" King, Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan, Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos, Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi, and Gerran Howell as Dennis Whitaker.
