“As crazy as it sounds”: When Young Sheldon’s ‘Georgie’ Montana Jordan revealed why he had never watched The Big Bang Theory

Montana Jordan’s impressive portrayal of Georgie Cooper in Young Sheldon was loved by all. The actor’s performance and character were so much appreciated that he ended up getting his own spin-off series, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage.

When Young Sheldon started airing in 2017, the franchise had already been established by its predecessor series, The Big Bang Theory. However, despite being a part of the TBBT universe, Montana Jordan never watched the original show.

In a 2021 interview with Glitter Magazine, the actor revealed that even though he works in the television industry, he does not quite like watching TV shows, and hence, never sat down to watch The Big Bang Theory:

“As crazy as it sounds now that I’m on T.V., I’ve never been a kid to sit down and watch TV…believe it or not, I still don’t. So, I haven’t watched The Big Bang Theory, but I’ve heard about how great the show was.”

Young Sheldon’s Montana Jordan once revealed why he did not watch The Big Bang Theory

Unlike many other characters in Young Sheldon, Georgie Cooper’s older version had not made any appearance on The Big Bang Theory until the spin-off and prequel series premiered on CBS.

That is another reason why Montana Jordan did not need to watch the original show, as he did not have to base his performance on an already-established character. Talking about the development, the actor said in his interview:

“Well, for my character, he wasn’t in The Big Bang Theory until Young Sheldon had already started, so I have a feeling they built the character around me in real life. “

During the conversation, Montana also talked about his experience working on the show and said:

“The journey has been amazing! I’m blessed and thankful to be in the position I’m in today; getting to work with such amazing people, from my cast mates to everyone behind the scenes, is just everything I could have asked for.”

He added:

“Working with such amazing cast members, there’s never a dull moment. There are too many great memories to name.”

The sitcom chronicles the childhood days of the genius Sheldon Cooper. George Cooper Jr., aka Georgie, is his elder brother, who is not as academically intelligent and often hates being compared to Sheldon. However, he is able to find his own calling in life and goes on to have a successful tire business.

Meanwhile, he falls in love with Mandy, an older woman, and gets married to her, which forms the premise of the second spin-off in the TBBT universe, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. Montana is reprising his role as Georgie in the new show, opposite Emily Osment as Mandy.

Coming back to Young Sheldon, the show began airing in 2017 and concluded in 2024, while it was still topping the viewership charts. Apart from Montana, the series starred Iain Armitage as Sheldon Cooper, Zoe Perry as Mary Cooper, Lance Barber as George Cooper Sr., Raegan Revord as Melissa "Missy" Cooper, and Annie Potts as Constance "Connie" Tucker.
