Ben Stiller and Jessica Chastain are set to star in Apple TV+'s limited drama series The Off Weeks. The two stars, who have previously worked together on the animated film Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, will also executive produce the show.

The eight-part limited series will follow Gus Adler, a divorced writing professor struggling to make sense of his life after his failed marriage. He is all over the place and struggling to deal with things during the 'on weeks', when he has the custody of his children. As per the official description of the show, Gus will meet a dangerous woman:

''But in his “off weeks,” he’s falling dangerously in love with Stella West, a mysterious woman whose arrival puts Gus’ on-week duties and off-weeks ambitions on a fatal collision course.''

Alissa Nutting (Made for Love) will serve as the showrunner, with Michael Showalter (The Idea of You) set to direct the upcoming Apple TV+ series. Both Nutting and Showalter will also executive produce the limited series.

Ben Stiller and Jessica Chastain to lead Apple TV+'s The Off Weeks

The upcoming Apple TV+ series will mark Ben Stiller's first lead role in a scripted series. The Emmy-winning writer, director, and actor is known for his guest appearances on shows, including Arrested Development, Miami Vice, Frasier, Friends, and The Simpsons. Additionally, he headlined Fox's sketch comedy The Ben Stiller Show in the 90s.

Academy and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Jessica Chastain is best known for playing the role of American country singer Tammy Wynette in the 2022 biographical miniseries George and Tammy. Chastain is also known for films like Interstellar, It Chapter Two, Molly's Game and the miniseries Scenes from a Marriage. Additionally, the actress is all set to debut in another Apple TV thriller, The Savant, alongside Nnamdi Asomugha and Pablo Schreiber. The series will debut on September 26, 2025.

Ben Stiller is strengthening his collaboration with the platform following his Emmy-winning and beloved thriller series, Severance. The Adam Scott and Britt Lower-starring series is not only one of the biggest titles on television but has also brought huge success for Apple TV+. The streaming juggernaut has picked up 41 Emmy nominations and was the most Emmy-nominated series at the 2025 Emmys, with 27 nods.

While Lower picked up her first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, Tramell Tillman also won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

In addition to Severance, Apple TV+'s freshman comedy series The Studio won big at the 2025 Emmys. The record-breaking streak of this Seth Rogen-starring series bagged a total of 13 wins, including Outstanding Comedy Series and the first Emmy win for Rogen for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

Apple TV+'s recent win at the 2025 Emmys proves that the platform prioritises quality over quantity. The platform is all set for another exceptional collaboration with Stiller and Chastain on The Off Weeks.
