Ahead of Andor Season 2's premiere on Disney+ on April 22, 2025, showrunner Tony Gilroy and cast members Adria Arjona, Genevieve O'Reilly, and Duncan Pow joined fans for a special live-stream rewatch of Season 1, revisiting Cassian’s journey leading up to Rogue One.
A prequel series to Star Wars Rogue One, which debuted in September 2022, Andor will follow the titular hero as he rises against the Galactic Empire and forms his Rebel Alliance in the movie.
Ahead of the Season 2 premiere, Gilroy shared his favorite scene from Season 1 in the live stream, a scene between Syril and Chief Hines from Episode 1. Talking about the scene, he said:
''It’s so flashy in a really cool, ‘down’ way.''
More on Gilroy's favorite scene from Andor Season 1 and what we can expect from Season 2 in our story.
Tony Gilroy shares his favorite scene from Andor Season 1
Giving in to the hype and anticipation for Andor Season 2, a special re-watch party was live-streamed on the Star Wars YouTube channel. Showrunner Tony Gilroy was joined by some of the show's cast and fans for a special re-watch of Season 1, where Gilroy and the cast members shared fun anecdotes and behind-the-scenes from Season 1 and teased a little about the upcoming chapter.
When asked about his favorite scene from Season 1, he chose a scene from Episode 1, where Syril and Chief Hines are together. Talking about this unusual choice, Gilroy noted:
''The scene for me is in episode 1 when Syril and Chief Hines are together– it’s the scene where I relax when people are watching the show. It’s a little bit long and shaggy, but it's what I wanted this show to be able to do... It’s a very random choice, but that’s what I’m going with."
While the unusual choice, the scene captured the flashiness of the show and the characters that Gilroy wanted his series to tap into, thus the unusual choice.
The cast also teased Andor Season 2 in the re-watch live-stream
While Gilroy and the cast mostly discussed their experience while filming for key scenes from Season 1, fans could not help themselves and asked them about the sophomore season.
Arjona, who plays Bix Caleen, one of Cassain's closest friends on the show, teased their dynamic for Season 2:
''In season 2 there’s a really beautiful moment between these two characters [Cassain and Bix]...They were kept very far apart in season 1; that won’t be the case in season 2. What happens to ordinary people and their love lives when they’re engulfed by war? If you liked season 1, get ready for season 2."
Teasing some more, O'Reilly, who plays Mon Mothma on the show, talked about her character's journey in Season 2, which will eventually prepare Mon Mothma for Rogue One:
''...if you think of all of the binding and all of the shackles that Mon Mothma has to accumulate, it’s amazing that she can move by the time we get to where we need to go...I’m so excited for people to watch [season 2]. For so much of season 1 she had to be carved in stone. She had to hide a lot in order for her to get to where she gets to in Rogue One."
