Squid Game Season 3 broke several records after its release on June 27, 2025. With shocking and heartbreaking sacrifices and deaths, the final season was brutal and tragic.

While the games in Squid Game Season 3 were more horrifying, this season also added another menacing detail by letting the VIPs take part in the games as pink guards. However, recently, the editor of the Korean series, Nam Na-young, told Entertainment Weekly that there were many scenes with the VIPs, but she decided to edit most of them to highlight the players more.

She said:

"Actually, there were more scenes with the VIPs. As I was editing, I did cut them a lot because when we're in the VIP room, the tension kind of releases."

More on this in our story.

Squid Game Season 3 editor reveals surprising scene cuts of the VIP room

In Squid Game Season 3, the game continued with the surviving contestants from season 2 as they tried to survive the brutal games or win the prize money, which was also the goal of several players. While moving forward in the game, the players make numerous devastating decisions to either save themselves or to save their close ones.

Witnessing the poignant moments of the decision-making process of the players and how they play the game builds tension and keeps the viewers hooked on the series. While the game proceeds, the scenes also cut to the VIP room, where the ultra-rich people are seen enjoying and betting on the lives of the players, depicting an infuriating moment among the heart-shattering ones.

In Squid Game Season 3, the VIPs also bet on Player 222’s infant and even cheered when she was made a contestant in the game. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Squid Game’s editor revealed that there were many more scenes of them, which she edited out as she wanted to keep the focus more on the players.

To add to her previous comment, she said:

"The contestants' emotions and reactions of the games were what I prioritized when editing."

This decision gave us more scenes with the players rather than the VIPs, which made the final season more impactful.

More about Squid Game Season 3

Aside from the revelations about the VIPs, the team also revealed behind-the-scenes details about the horrifying Jump Rope game from Squid Game Season 3. Actor Lee Jung-jae, who played the fan-favorite character of Gi-hun, told in the same interview how they filmed the jumping scene. He said:

"The jump rope is actually CGI. There were beeps for when the rope would be going around, then a long beep would signal that it is at our feet. But that wasn't so easy, keeping to the beat."

Director Hwang also spoke about the set of the game and said:

"The actual set was about five feet off the ground. Even at that height, the actors felt the fear of heights."

Fear of heights played a crucial role in all of the games in Squid Game Season 3, but it was especially difficult in the jump rope game and also resulted in several players’ deaths.
