The first couple of episodes of Eddie Redmayne's much-awaited The Day of the Jackal are out for streaming now. As fans are buzzing with excitement about his incredible portrayal of the titular character by Redmayne, he opens up about his experience of getting into the character of The Jackal.

Eddie Redmayne's Jackal is a reputed assassin who is not only a proficient killer but also a prolific prosthetic artist, having a wide array of costumes and materials at his disposal to transform his look completely whenever he needs to.

Redmayne, in a recent conversation with Peacock, revealed how the show's creators tried to keep the story as true to the original as possible, without compromising on the nuances of modern-day life. On this note, he emphasized how, while the Jackal in the original film was also known to disguise himself through hair dye and little bits and pieces here and there, the creators of the TV show had to ramp things up to be appropriate for modern-day technology. Therefore, the series shows the Jackal as a "full blown prosthetic artist."

"One of the things I think we all loved about the original movie and the book was the way that the Jackal is a chameleon, really. In the film, it was bits of hair dye, and, you know, subtle things, that shifted. But now, because of CCTV and because of face recognition technology, it felt like we could amp that up, and so we leant into this idea of the Jackal as a full blown prosthetic artist." He said.

Eddie Redmayne opens up about playing the titular character in The Day of the Jackal

The Day of the Jackal is a modern-day remake of the original book by Frederick Forsyth and the 1973 movie starring Edward Fox by the same name. Although Edward Fox was irreplaceable in his portrayal of the character of the Jackal, Eddie Redmayne has picked up the role in 2025, and he seems to have done justice to the role.

Aside from Redmayne, Lashana Lynch also plays a very important role in the series, as she portrays the MI6 agent who is hot on the Jackal's trail. While the Jackal is equipped with his prosthetic prowess, Lynch's Bianca is proficient at making aliases and telling lies that could give the Jackal a run for his money.

The cat-and-mouse chase that takes place throughout the series has gotten fans hooked, and there is already talk about a second season of The Day of the Jackal, even before the first season has been fully released.

The first five episodes of The Day of the Jackal are available to stream on Peacock right now, and the remaining five will be released one every Thursday. The season will feature a double-sized finale that is scheduled to release on December 12.
