Celebrities, including Amy Schumer, Olivia Munn, and Olivia Wilde, have criticized the mission, while Lauren Sánchez and Gayle King are responding to the criticism directed at their Blue Origin space mission.

On the IT company's first all-female flight, Gayle and Lauren joined Katy Perry, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn on Monday, April 14.

Shortly after the event was over, Wilde and Amy made trolling remarks on social media, and Munn referred to the effort as "gluttonous."

The phrase "getting off a commercial flight in 2025" was scrawled on the meme. It made reference to all of the recent flying accidents and catastrophes. Meanwhile, Wilde said,

"Billion dollars bought some good memes, I guess,"

as the description for the meme. After sharing this story on Instagram, the actor appeared to wonder why they were traveling to space.

Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, were also offered the chance to participate in the historic Blue Origin mission, according to a “source” quoted by The U.S. Sun, but both the famous mother and the daughter declined the chance to embark on the space voyage.

"These rides are a joke. They are like a carnival ride for the rich. All in its like 11 minutes, barely touching space and “weightless” for like a minute. These are not astronauts, they are tourists. They go through “training”! Like, here’s how you buckle your seatbelt."

"Olivia’s got a point. A billion dollars for an 11-minute space jaunt does seem more like a flex than a necessity, especially when the memes might be the best thing to come out of it."

Gayle King and Lauren Sanchez defend the Blue Origin idea

Lauren Sanchez and Gayle King responded to the criticism directed at their Blue Origin space mission in an interview with People.

King said:

"Anybody that’s criticizing it doesn’t really understand what is happening here. We can all speak to the response we’re getting from young women from young girls about what this represents"

Sanchez, meanwhile, thinks young women will find the trip inspirational. She said:

"I get really fired up. I would love to have them come to Blue Origin and see the thousands of employees that don’t just work here but they put their heart and soul into this vehicle. They love their work and they love the mission and it’s a big deal for them,
“So when we hear comments like that, I just say, trust me. Come with me. I’ll show you what this is about, and it’s, it’s really eye opening."
