Rick Ross has agreed to make his much-anticipated car show wheelchair accessible after he was sued by one of his fans.
Last year, Darris Straughter, a disabled man, sued Ross last August after he purchased tickets to the 2024 show but couldn't make it inside because the wheelchair-accessible shuttle bus never showed up. He also never got a refund for his ticket.
As reported by TMZ, Rick Ross has now pledged to offer round-trip wheelchair-accessible shuttle service for the upcoming car & bike show, scheduled to take place in Fayetteville, Georgia. It will pick up and drop off guests at the designated handicapped parking spots.
Everything we know about Rick Ross' legal woes:
Darris Straughter's attorney, John Hoover, told TMZ:
“Thanks to Darris Straughter and the other wheelchair users who came forward, the upcoming Rick Ross Car & Bike Show will be so wheelchair accessible that even golf carts will be provided to wheelchair users." He added, "This is a milestone in the ongoing litigation. Defendants continue to deny wrongdoing, but if it wasn’t broken, they wouldn’t have to fix it."
Straughter came in from Miami to attend last year's event, but the shuttle failed to pick him up from his hotel, as was expected. Straughter, who had suffered an injury to his spinal cord in 2018, had gotten in touch with the organizers two weeks prior to the event to let them know about his situation. However, he was left waiting for several hours on the day instead.
He later sued Ross for violations of the Americans With Disabilities Act, wrongful enrichment, and breach of contract. He also demanded that all of Ross' future car shows be more wheelchair-friendly. HipHopDx has reported that despite the victory, Straughter continues to seek restitution for the alleged incident.
While Rick Ross has yet to issue a statement about the incident, he has been making waves in his latest business venture. The Hustlin' hitmaker recently opened up a dental practice, Smiles by Mario Montoya, in Atlanta, in partnership with the dentist of the same name. He penned on Instagram recently:
“We did it @drmariomontoya. We began discussing this plan three years ago in Cali, Colombia and now we’ve opened our first dentist office in the U.S.!! Everyone reading this, come get your billion dollar smile in Sandy Springs, Atlanta now. Grateful for the opportunity to play a part in this iconic move. Invest in your smile this year.”
This year's event is slated to take place on June 7, and fans can expect guest appearances from Piles and Nino Breeze.
