Hilary Duff's relationship history with husband Mathew Koma explored, as she releases her first music in ten years
Hilary Duff was introduced to Mathew Koma back in 2015 when they collaborated for her fifth studio album, Breathe In. Breathe Out. In a 2019 interview with Vogue, the "Lizzie McGuire movie" actress explained that the pair did not develop a romantic relationship at first and continued to maintain a professional working relationship. She further explained that after spending more time together, both she and Koma realized there was a spark, which gradually developed into a friendship. She said:
"I didn’t know if he was dating someone. And then when we started talking about music, things started sparking and he was being funny enough, not flirtatious, but funny enough to where we started creating a banter and a nice friendship right off the bat.”
According to US Weekly, the couple eventually began dating and made their first red carpet appearance at a SAG Awards party in January 2017. Hilary Duff and Mathew Koma reportedly went through a brief breakup in March but were back together by October of the same year. According to People Magazine, during her appearance on The Talk, Hilary Duff spoke about how her relationship with Mathew Koma had grown stronger since rekindling their romance. She said:
"It's going so great. I think that you have history and a past with someone and love, and just because it doesn't work out the first time, the second time, as long as there's not too much damage done, then, it can always work out again."
A few months later, in June 2018, the pair announced that they were expecting their first child together. Hilary Duff gave birth to their daughter, Banks Violet Bair, in October 2018. The couple announced their engagement in May 2019, after which they tied the knot in December 2019. In her interview with Vogue, the beloved singer explained how Koma planned out a simple yet heartfelt proposal, and said:
"It's our whole entire story mapped out for us to refer back to as we get older and for our kids to know, which is amazing. I get to the very last page, and there's a little piece that I have to lift up and my ring was inside. It was so sweet. It was really special and really simple, which is very much how we are and how we operate. Then it started raining, and it was perfect."
Hilary Duff and Mathew Koma, who often share pictures of their family on Instagram, welcomed their second daughter, Mae James Bair, in 2021, and their third child, a daughter, Townes Meadow Bair, in 2024.
