Streamer ExtraEmily causes frenzies on the internet after streaming herself running a red light.
ExtraEmily, a streamer from the Texas-based media group One True King, shared a live stream of herself running through a reported red light. The streamer, whose real name is Emily Xuechun Zhang, was talking on a Twitch stream when she switched her camera to show the road and, in a last-minute decision, decided to cross the red light. She then proceeded to justify this by saying,
"O.K., no problem. That happens all the time." she further states, "The stop lights are really long here…I usually just go past"
Her attitude towards the matter and the action itself have caused quite an outrage and led to backlash towards the Chinese-American streamer, who has 460,000 Twitch followers as of writing.
Internet reacts to ExtraEmily's stream
The internet had mixed reactions to the streamer's actions. While some didn't think it was quite a big deal, given the short amount of time at the red light, others talked about reckless driving and its dire consequences.
i mean, it turned red on the 0:12 second mark, right before she rolled through the intersection. not that bad tbh. ive seen way worse in texas. its not like she rolled through half a minute after it turned red- one user commented
Another called out her casual behaviour,- "happens all the time" is such a bad excuse..Pay attention driving people.
Meh, not that bad, a cop or an accident will find her if she keeps doing it but it was like a very dark orange light we call em where I'm from. She didn't run straight through the red light, she just ignored the yellow one, which is still bad but not as dangerous.- one netizen tried to rationalise it.
While another disagreed,- That’s not quirky, that’s just wildly illegal and dangerous… someone tell her this isn’t GTA.
A user also talked about how she shouldn't be streaming such events.
She could get charged for doing this. If the police see this, I wouldn't be surprised if they charge her for it. Not exactly smart to be streaming breaking laws
Coincidentally, this is not the first time ExtraEmily has been involved in a traffic-related incident that has been streamed live. In 2023, she was allegedly rear-ended in her parked car at a red light while she was talking on a live video. In another incident in 2024, during a trip to New York City, Emily crashed her rental bike into a police car, yet again, while streaming.
