Cassie, whose real name is Cassandra Ventura, singer and former girlfriend of Sean “Diddy” Combs, is seeking court protection from a subpoena issued by Sean Combs’ legal team. She has remained a central figure since she filed a lawsuit against the rapper, allegedly accusing him of s*x trafficking and s*xual assault, as per the reports.

According to a report in TMZ, the subpoena, which was sent to Ventura on March 19, 2025, demanded that she produce,

"All draft memoirs, autobiographies, narratives, diaries, journals or notes ... and any communications about plans to publish or threaten to publish such a document."

This comes after Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, claimed that Ventura had offered to sell the rights to a book she had written about their relationship for $30 million to prevent its publication. Agnifilo added that Diddy declined the offer, and later, Ventura filed a lawsuit against him for r*pe and abuse.

The move has been interpreted by some observers as an attempt by Combs to "bury" or suppress his former girlfriend’s private memoir by gaining control over its content and related financial information.

In addition to the subpoena, previously, Combs had also asked the federal judge to exclude the widely circulated CNN video linked to Ventura, claiming that it had been altered. Here is what we know.

Why Sean “Diddy” Combs wants the viral CNN video to be excluded from evidence?

Sean “Diddy” Combs has requested that the federal judge, on April 17, 2025, exclude the viral video, which was aired by CNN in May 2024, from his upcoming trial.

“Mr. Combs seeks to exclude all available video files related to an incident from March 5, 2016, in the Intercontinental Hotel,”

His lawyers wrote.

In the video clip, dated March 5, 2016, the rapper is seen running down a hallway, chasing his former girlfriend, Casandra Ventura, at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, reported the New York Post.

As Ventura walks towards the hotel’s elevator, he attacks her; he allegedly grabs her by the back of her neck and throws her on the floor. He then continues to kick her, grab her belongings from the floor, and then drag her.

According to a report in The Wrap, Comb’s legal team alleged in a 15-page motion that the video has been tampered with and wants it to be removed. The legal document stated:

“There is no longer any dispute that the CNN footage from March 5, 2016, at the Intercontinental Hotel, offered by the government at three separate bail hearings, is wholly inaccurate, having been altered, manipulated, sped-up and edited to be out of sequence.”

It further indicated that CNN paid for the footage and presented it out of order.

“As indicated below, CNN paid [redacted] for footage, copied that footage in unknown ways, presented that footage out of order and destroyed the original. Accordingly, all the footage from CNN is inaccurate and inadmissible as well.”

Shortly after the video was published, Diddy took to his Instagram and apologized for his behaviour. He said,

"It's so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that. I hit rock bottom -- but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable.”

Reportedly, Combs has pleaded not guilty to five federal charges, including racketeering and s*x trafficking. His trial is scheduled to begin next month, however, his attorneys have asked for a two-month delay to resolve the disputes related to the evidence, per ABC News.
