Imane Anys, aka Pokimane, is a name that is more recognizable than most in the world of streaming. She made waves recently, but not for a viral moment or gameplay. Instead, she shared something personal on the Sweet n' Sour podcast. Pokimane admitted on the podcast that she used to lie to her audience during streams.

Those lies were not out of ill intent, she claims. She believed they were either jokes or entertainment. Some of the falsehoods she created involved claiming that she would quit her streaming to live on a farm. She even dared herself to cry in order to sell it as though it was real.

The confession has set tongues wagging, particularly because Pokimane has previously criticized other streamers for being untruthful. This leaves one wondering about trust, entertainment, and what the audience expects from content creators. LilyPichu said:

"Let's say there's a cold snowy area, and then they're like, 'Oh you sounded so sure about that area, Lily.' And I'm like, 'Yeah, no. When I was younger, I actually got stuck in a blizzard when I was seven years old. My parents took me camping.' And I just keep going, right? Then I go, 'You now, I'm just f**king with you guys.' And then they're like, 'Why?!' But it's so funny because they all fall for it. You should just lie to your chat, it's really funny."

Pokimane responded to it, saying:

"You're bringing back old memories. I used to do this all the time. At then at some point, Dexerto came into existence, and then anytime I started saying s**t, I would say stuff like, 'Guys, I'm quitting streaming. I'm going to go live on a farm. It's been my dream to have chickens and quit this digital technology-ridden life. And I'm just over it!' And sometimes, sometimes, I even challenge myself to choke up a couple tears."

Why did Pokimane lie during her streams?

Pokimane explained that her fabrications were in the spirit of humor. She played them like little tests. To illustrate, she, at some point, attempted to mimic tears in order to tell her audience she was quitting streaming. In her own words, it was all a joke and a test of how far she could push one.

She didn't lie to hurt or benefit from the viewers. She viewed it as being an entertainer. Actors play roles, and she felt it was fine to play a role on stream at times. The jokes were not always easy to spot. Some of the viewers actually believed the stories. Pokimane explained that lying became a game to her and that she loved how people reacted.

How does this affect her image today?

She has evolved in how she perceives honesty on stream. She previously believed it was fine to lie for the sake of entertainment. Now, she understands how it can lead to issues. This evolution has influenced how she behaves today. But others are already pointing out that she has previously scolded other streamers for being deceitful.

For instance, she criticized female streamers who were cheating about their dating status. That makes people wonder if her past behavior aligns with her present opinions. Nevertheless, she appears to be growing from her mistakes. She related this experience freely and acknowledged it wasn't the appropriate thing to do. This indicates that she realizes how valuable trust is when establishing a genuine connection with her viewers.

Her revelation that she would lie in her streams has begun a fresh discussion about what is allowed in online entertainment. Her lies, intended as humor, resulted in actual issues. She claims to have learned from the ordeal and no longer fabricates stories on stream.

Her experience teaches us that content creators need to consider the consequences of their actions, no matter how trivial they may initially appear. The margin between entertainment and honesty is fine, but Pokimane's tale reminds us all that honesty is important. Even in a world of humor and games, the truth is still worth something.
