Dakota Johnson recently shared information about her dating life with fans in an interview hosted by Pedro Pascal for Elle UK on May 15, 2025. Pedro and Dakota have formed a good friendship over the past year and will play lead roles in the upcoming love triangle film Materialists, alongside Chris Evans.
While touching upon the themes of the movie, Dakota threw a curveball the fans' way by admitting that she has been navigating the treacherous waters of romance without ever being on a dating platform. The admission was met with a tinge of skepticism from fans, even though the interviewees and Pedro let out a hearty chuckle. In the interview, she mentions:
"I’ve never dated anybody. I’ve had boyfriends, but I have never been on a dating app. I just don’t know that world. So, it was so interesting and intriguing. It’s the most beautiful side of humanity, but it can also be the most ugly. Loving someone is the most scary and beautiful thing you can do"
Elaborating upon her claim that dating is ugly, she commented:
"Even the title of our movie—that people can basically get to a place where they deny their true soul’s needs or their true heart’s needs because of what they think they want or need in a materialistic way, which is sad to me. But also, for some people, really great. Who the f*ck am I to judge?"
Even though Pedro was a bit hesitant at first, Dakota Johnson's reasoning brought him on board as well, and he ended up nodding in agreement with the actress and said:
"There are so many ways of understanding love. But I think what would mean something to you or me is linked to what real intimacy and vulnerability is. And so, when it comes to any kind of status game, it’s very painful."
What's next for Dakota Johnson?
Although many fans found Dakota Johnson's admission to be quite amusing, it wasn't the only noteworthy event from the interview. In her conversation with Pedro Pascal, the duo discussed a variety of subjects - from their awkward first meeting, to their upcoming movie Materialists' premise, to Johnson's obliviousness to using online platforms.
Even when Dakota Johnson’s life has been heavily covered by the media, she has chosen not to talk about her dating life all that often. Though interest in her dating life has not died down, she has been in a steady relationship with Chris Martin since 2017, who is the lead singer of Coldplay. The actress has previously spoken of her affection with Chris and incidentally his children as well, with whom she has developed a close bond.
Dakota Johnson is currently wrapping up the promotional activities for Materialists, which is set to hit the theatres on June 13, 2025. Apart from the aforementioned movie, the actress has a couple of other projects lined up, including Splitsville (release in Aug 2025) and Verity (release in May 2026).
