What information do the authorities have about the shooter?
The authorities are still unable to identify the shooter. However, photos of a suspected individual have been released to the public. The photo shows a man who "appears to be of college age" and seemed to have "blended in" with the college students after the shot was fired. The man was seen wearing a long-sleeve black T-shirt with a hat and black sunglasses.
Earlier, two people of interest were detained, but neither of them was connected to the shooting and was released.
Currently, a manhunt is underway, and the authorities are offering $100,000 for information that would help them find Kirk's murderer.
Where did the shooter shoot from?
According to the authorities, the unidentified shooter aimed at Charlie from a distant rooftop, probably 200 meters away from where the political activist sat.
The FBI has also released a video of the alleged shooter. It revealed a man dressed in a full black outfit, climbing off a roof, and running away, moments after Kirk was shot.
What type of gun was used?
A Mauser .30 caliber bolt-action rifle was found in the nearby woods on the campus and was hidden under a towel. Authorities believed that the area where it was dropped was the path taken by the shooter.
How will the shooter be punished?
Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated that the state is seeking the death penalty in connection with Charlie Kirk’s murder.
The governor addressed the issue at a press conference and said:
"We've been working with our attorneys, getting everything that we need, affidavits ready, so that we can pursue the death penalty in this case. And that will happen here in the state of Utah."
How are people cooperating with the FBI?
Utah Governor Spencer Cox revealed that this is one of the largest numbers of digital tips they have gotten since the Boston Marathon bombing that happened in 2013.
Authorities have received over 7000 tips and conducted more than 200 interviews so far.
