More details on SZA’s Saturn will be explored as the track hits over 800 million streams on Spotify
Saturn was released as the lead single from the singer’s 2024 reissued album Lana. The mixed-genre track pays homage to SZA’s debut album and is a testament to the singer’s ability to express her human tendencies beautifully through relatable music.
Saturn utilizes striking instrumentals and a melodious voice to capture the listener. The song dwells on themes of self-discovery, evolution, and escapism. The pre-chorus starts with the singer being dissatisfied with her current status and experiencing despair because of it:
"Stuck in this paradigm/ Don't believe in paradise/ This must be what Hell is like/ There's got to be more, got to be more/ Sick of this head of mine/ Intrusive thoughts, they paralyzе/ Nirvana's not as advertised/ Therе's got to be more, been here before,"
She later progresses to finding her happiness and breaking the pattern of despair in the chorus:
"Ooh (Ooh, ooh)Life's better on Saturn/ Got to break this pattern/ Of floating away/ Ooh (Ooh, ooh)/ Find something worth saving/ It's all for the taking/ I always say,"
SZA launched the song at the 2024 Grammy Awards, performing it live in partnership with MasterCard. The song was later surprise-released two weeks after the performance.
Saturn peaked at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the US Pop Airplay and Rhythmic Billboard charts, respectively. The track also won a Grammy Award for Best R&B song.
The track also secured nominations for the BET Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and iHeartRadio Music Awards, amongst others. Saturn was written by the singer alongside Carter Lang, Cian Ducrot, Rob Bisel, Scott Zhang, and Jared Solomon.
The song has been certified double platinum in America, New Zealand, and Canada and gold in the United Kingdom.
SZA is set to embark on the Grand National Tour alongside Not Like Us hitmaker Kendrick Lamar on April 19, 2025. The co-headlining concert tour ends on August 9, 2025.
