Starving singer Hailee Steinfeld, while speaking to Collider in an article published on April 16, mentioned the reason behind wanting to take a break from music. Steinfeld mentioned that she wants to focus on acting and was "happy to be doing that",
"I had taken a bit of break from music, which was a very difficult decision to make, but I wanted to focus on my acting and was happy to be doing that. It goes without saying, but...music is a love of mine and a huge passion and something that has played a very strong role in my life in more ways than one, and having had the opportunity to make music through the years of my own is something that I will never take for granted."
Hailee Steinfeld had been appearing in films since an early age to gain experience, and her very first project was playing the role of Talia Alden in She's a Fox. However, her last music release was back in 2023 with the feel-good summer hit SunKissing and a collaboration with Anderson.Paak in electric guitar-backed pop earworm Coast, a year prior.
Steinfeld has appeared in other well-known movies such as 3 Days to Kill, Barely Lethal, and Ten Thousand Saints.
Most recently, Steinfeld played the role of Mary in Sinners. Elsewhere in the interview, Steinfeld mentioned that she feels "so lucky to be a part of a movie like Sinners where music is such a huge part of it" and added that it was a dream for her to "be acting in a film that is so driven and moved by music."
The movie is scheduled to release on April 18.
